Leaders Leicester suffered their first defeat since mid-November as they were beaten 3-1 by Coventry, after playing the second half with 10 men following Abdul Fatawu's straight red card.

Ipswich ended Saturday where they started it, in second spot, and closed the gap at the top to seven points after coming from behind to beat Sunderland 2-1.

Southampton had briefly gone second but remain third in the Championship with an emphatic 4-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday, which equalled a club record for games unbeaten dating back more than 100 years.

Leeds also performed well, beating Cardiff 3-0 on the road, while West Brom kept pace at the top by beating Blackburn 4-1.

Birmingham scored in added time to rescue a point at home to Swansea in Tony Mowbray's first match in charge.

Preston put an end to a poor run of form with victory over Bristol City, while Stoke maintain their undefeated start under new boss Steven Schumacher with victory at bottom side Rotherham.

Steve in Bicester: This game is definitely in need of a lift - a Chair-lift! COYRs.

A pun fit for that first half of football we just witnessed...

QPR are going to be the happier of the two teams, they have created more and better opportunities. They just have to be wary of the counter-attack from Watford.

The game needs a goal, desperately needs a lift.

It took 45 minutes for a shot on goal from either side as Sinclair Armstrong's angled effort stung the palms of Ben Hamer.

A game with plenty of intent but lacking much quality in the final third - at either end so far. With five in the book already you wonder if an individual error might be the thing to open this encounter up in the second half.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 45 mins

    QPR 0-0 Watford

Wes Hoedt is penalised after jumping for a header and is the fifth man into the book, Watford's second.

  7. CLOSE!published at 43 mins

    QPR 0-0 Watford

Ilias Chair saw the loose ball infront of an open goal but has been denied by a superb challenge from Ryan Andrews.

Sinclair Armstrong is played in down the right, his low cross-shot is only parried by Ben Hamer into the danger zone but Andrews was alert to slide in and prevent Chair from prodding into an unguarded net from eight yards out.

He might have drifted out of this game after a bright start, but he's still the mainstay of my Furniture XI... feel free to get in touch and let us know who you would include with him!

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a red card in this game.

Watford's Ryan Andrews is played in on the overlap by Yaser Asprilla, he takes his time before whipping a low cross into the middle but Jimmy Dunne is able to clear the danger... and the Hoops are also able to clear the subsequent corner without alarm.

Ironic cheers from some wags in the home end.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 39 mins

Back in the team and back in the book. Jack Colback clatters into Yaser Aprilla on halfway and has his name taken. No complaints.

    Rs lead 3-1 in cautions.

Watford's last away game at Plymouth had six goals.

The three before that had 12 combined. Every single team has scored in those four games...

Just going to leave that fact there...

Wes Hoedt inadvisedly backs off as QPR frontman Lyndon Dykes picks up the ball and works himself a couple of yards before lashing over the bar from just outside the area.

The Watford fans hoot their approval, the ones not ducking for cover behind the goal, that is...

Giorgi Chakvetadze's whipped free-kick from the right is met by a fine header from Francisco Sierrallta which comes off the bar with the flying Asmir Begivic beaten, but the flag is up.

A warning for QPR, who have a dreadful habit of conceding goals from set-pieces.

QPR haven't had a shot on target, and that's the reason why. A really promising position, but no outcome.

End-to-end, blood-and-thunder stuff. Good Championship fare.

Yaser Asprilla spins to receive possession in midfield from Tom Dele-Bashiru, then sprays the ball with the outside of his boot to play Rhys Healey in down the left of the area, but the Rs defence holds firm and Healey's appeals for a penalty fall on deaf ears.

  16. CLOSE!published at 28 mins

    QPR 0-0 Watford

A shot on goal from Watford.

Matheus Martins has scored from this angle more than once this season, drifting inside from the left of the area, on to his right foot, trying to bend it into the far top corner.

He's slightly off-radar this time, but not by more than a foot or so. The Hoops certainly don't want to let him find his range with another try.

  17. Postpublished at 25 mins

    QPR 0-0 Watford

Matheus Martins will have been giving the Watford fans behind the goal kittens as he rolls the ball under his studs and seeks to dribble away from Lyndon Dykes deep in his own penalty area.

Despite making a textbook 'diving' gesture, Dykes comes on a little too strong and Martins is awarded a free-kick to spare him any blushes.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 23 mins

    QPR 0-0 Watford

Jake Livermore went into the book for that tug-back by the way and Kenneth Paal is not far behind him, hauling back Matheus Martins in midfield as the Hornets looked to spring a counter-attack from a QPR corner.

As a manager one of the best yellow cards you'll see. But we have had three cautions in the opening 23 minutes. Will be finish with 22 players on the field here?

  19. Postpublished at 21 mins

    QPR 0-0 Watford

QPR howl for a penalty but Jake Livermore looks to have hauled Reggie Cannon down just outside the box. The referee certainly thinks so, anyway, and it's his view that matters.

Ilias Chair whips a right-footed effort from the right of the area across the face of goal, but it's always too high and drops over the crossbar on the opposite side of goal.

Ambitious from that angle. Suited a leftie better.

  20. 'Sloppy Watford'published at 12:23 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

It's been very sloppy from Watford.

When you come up against a struggling team like QPR, you have to be the team to make it happen, but Watford haven't been that.
