There is a Premier League feel about coming here.

You would hope there’s a lionheart feeling in these (Preston) players. As a professional footballer you should be thinking ‘let me have a bit of this’.

If you’ve got anything about you we should be seeing that from Preston today.

This is what it’s all about.

    Neil Redfearn
Former Leeds manager on BBC Radio Leeds

I don’t think there will be problems (for Leeds) in open play. I think the issues are going to come from set plays.

When I look at this Leeds team now they look a little bit small. If you’ve got more than five markers it might be a bit of an issue.

Preston are very functional and a lot of their play is geared towards set plays.

Ethan Ampadu has been absolutely outstanding.

As regards general play Ampadu has probably been Leeds’ standout player this season.

It might only be January but it already looks like one from three for the second automatic promotion spot in the Championship.

Southampton, unbeaten since September, went up to second on goal difference on Saturday with a comfortable 3-1 success at Swansea.

With league leaders Leicester, who are seven points clear of the chasing pack, hosting third-placed Ipswich on Monday night the Saints will hope they'll still be there come Tuesday morning.

Leeds are seven points back from Russell Martin's men, who set a new club-record of 21 games without defeat in their win in Wales, so a win today feels imperative.

Leeds United gaffer Daniel Farke isn't a man to tinker with a winning team if he can help it. The Whites go with the same XI that started the comprehensive 3-0 win at Cardiff last week. In-form striker/podcast host Patrick Bamford will be looking to score for the fourth successive game.

Leeds XI: Meslier; Gray, Rodon, Firpo, Ampadu, Gruev, Kamara, Summerville, James, Georgino, Bamford

Subs: Klaesson, Cooper, Byram, Shackleton, Anthony, Poveda, Piroe, Gelhardt, Joseph.

Preston have been hit by an illness in the camp that sees goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, midfielder Duane Holmes and striker Milutin Osmajic all ruled out. Danish striker Emil Riis makes his first start for the club since 5 January 2023.

Preston XI: Cornell, Storey, Lindsay, Hughes, Potts, Whiteman, McCann, Millar, Frokjaer, Keane, Riis.

Subs: Pradic, Bauer, Cunningham, Best, Ledson, Brady, Browne, Woodburn, Stewart.

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier (left) was sent off for pushing Preston striker Milutin Osmajic in the meeting between these pair last month

It's less than four weeks weeks since Preston beat 10-man Leeds 2-1 to dent the Whites' automatic promotion hopes.

The pair meet again at Elland Road today with the home side needing the points to stay on the shoulder of the teams challenging for second spot.

Ryan Lowe's Preston, who have been consistent in their inconsistency, look like they could fall back into the mid-table pack but a win for them would keep them in the play-off conversation.

    Fifteen minutes until kick off.
