That's it for another round of fixtures across the English Football League.

For so long it looked like Leicester would be heading 10 points clear at the top of the Championship, but up popped Jeremy Sarmiento with a late equaliser to send Kieran McKenna, his Ipswich team and their supporters on their way back to Suffolk in a much happier mood.

  2. 'We completely deserved to win the game'published at 22:32 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    FT: Leicester 1-1 Ipswich

Leicester boss Enzo Maresca speaking to Sky Sports: "It's football. It's a big shame because of the effort they put in tonight.

"I think we completely deserved to win the game, but I have nothing to say about the performance because it was very good. In terms of hitting our final target and confidence, we are [heading] in the right direction.

"We had many chances, but if you do not score the second - even if you do - anything can happen.

"The Championship is very long, very difficult. It's a race and sometimes you're in front and sometimes behind. The most important thing is the way we perform and that has been very good."

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna speaking to Sky Sports: "I think in the second half we did [deserve it], first half we did not play with the conviction that we want to. It's a big step for this group of players, coming to a team like this, in their stadium, and it looked like that in the first half.

"We had a good chat at half-time, we knew that we had a level to go to, mostly just in our belief and conviction in ourselves, and we did that from the first minute in the second half.

"I thought it was a much better game, we managed to put the intensity that we wanted into the game and we were braver on and off the ball. We had more than enough good chances in the second half to get something from the game.

"Nights like tonight will help us. Even if we hadn't got the goal in the second half, I would have been pleased with our efforts in that half. It's by coming to places like this, being brave, and trying to impose yourself - that's how we will improve."

Quotes on the way shortly from Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna, who has been speaking to Sky Sports reacting to his side's draw at King Power Stadium.

"I like him, he speaks so much sense. You'd think he was my age," says Neil Warnock, 75, of McKenna, 37.

You can't fault the job he's done at Portman Road.

    FT: Leicester 1-1 Ipswich

Ipswich will certainly feel the happier of the two teams with that result, given the nature of their late equaliser.

Leicester led in the first half when Leif Davis scored an own goal after neat build-up play on the Foxes' left, and they had further chances to extend their advantage but found Ipswich goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky in fine form.

The visitors improved in the second period and got their reward with Jeremy Sarmiento's leveller. Just as they did in the reverse fixture at Portman Road on 27 December, they struck late to earn a point.

Ipswich have taken 59 points from 28 games, Southampton have 58. In most other seasons, they'd be away and clear as the Championship's top two.

Leicester, who have a scarcely believable tally of 66, are still in a very strong position despite tonight's late setback.

If they stay on current pace, they'll end up on 108 points, which would surpass the current Championship record of 106 set by Reading in 2005-06.

What follows next for the Championship's top two?

Both are in FA Cup fourth-round action this weekend; the Foxes host fellow second-tier club Birmingham, while the Tractor Boys are at home to non-league Maidstone in a match you can watch live on the BBC.

Leicester return to league action with a home game against Swansea on 30 January, while Ipswich's next Championship fixture is at Preston on 3 February.

Ipswich goalscorer Jeremy Sarmiento speaking to Sky Sports: "We've been working hard this week, we had a whole week to prepare for this game, and I'm glad I can give the team that joy. I'm really proud.

"The message was to help the boys - motivate them - we were still in the game, we were still pressing high. We deserved it in the end, so congratulations to the team.

"We wanted to pick up points, go on another winning streak, or pick up draws, we don't want to take any losses moving forward if we want to get where we want to be."

Neil Warnock is working as a pundit for Sky Sports tonight and has just praised referee Josh Smith for his performance.

I'd have to agree - it wasn't a match containing lots of major penalty shouts or contentious decisions, but for me he made the right calls when needed.

Graphic showing top of the Championship table

A really important point for Ipswich puts them back above in-form Southampton and up to second place in the Championship.

Leicester remain seven points clear at the summit and stay in a strong position to secure an immediate return to the Premier League - but the table could have been so much better reading for Enzo Maresca and his team had they held on to that lead.

Fantastic result for Ipswich, but they only played for 45 minutes, the second half was chalk and cheese.

All credit to the group of players, they never give up, hats off to the young players.

    There's the equaliser!

Massimo Luongo's shot from 20 yards is palmed away by Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, but straight into the path of Jeremy Sarmiento.

Hermansen almost keeps out the follow-up from the on-loan Brighton man, but his shot dribbles over the line and Ipswich are on the brink of a big, big point.

Leicester three minutes and a little bit of stoppage time away from a 10-point lead at the top of the Championship and taking a mighty leap back towards the Premier League.

Ipswich's attacking threat has just petered out for the moment.
