There were times this season where Cole Palmer looked like the only shining light in the team but everyone is catching up now. They are looking more of a collective and a team.

Those connections can take time but it certainly looks like they are building.

I have to agree with Nathan 21.14, the overreaction from Middlesbrough fans is only matched by the praise being given to the Chelsea team which cost more money than Middlesbrough football club is valued at.

Two crucial tackles from Middlesbrough as Chelsea push for a fifth.

Conor Gallagher breaks through on goal but is stopped by Dael Fry.

The ball breaks to Noni Madueke but Matt Clarke comes flying in to deny him.

    Committed defending.

  7. 'Chilwell did well'published at 21:24 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

Chilwell played well. Certainly in the first half, he made some great runs.

I think it is sensible to take him off. You don't want to risk him getting injured again, so that's the correct decision.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 65 mins

    Chelsea 4-0 Middlesbrough (Agg: 4-1)

    Double change for Chelsea.

Conor Gallagher and Alfie Gilchrist replace Armando Broja and Ben Chilwell.

A good run out for Chilwell as he works his way back from injury.

Meanwhile, Rav van den Berg is booked.

Something to get those Middlesbrough fans off their seats as Jonny Howson sets Lukas Engel away down the left.

The left-back whips in a very tempting cross but no Boro player can get on the end of it.

They do get it back but Morgan Rogers' shot is blocked.

It doesn’t matter how bad Chelsea are, they always seem to find a way to a cup final. They’re the ying to Tottenham’s yang in that it doesn’t seem to matter how great Spurs are, they always manage not to win anything!

Their team is suffering on the pitch but the Boro fans are doing their best to enjoy this experience regardless.

They're still in fine voice, doing what they can to lift the visitors.

The home side continue to threaten but they haven't quite got it right around the penalty area since the break.

The ball bounces around on the edge of the Middlesbrough box before breaking for Enzo Fernandez.

He doesn't connect well with the shot, though, and it sails high over the bar.

Too much criticism for Boro from our own fans here. Chelsea spent more on Enzo and Caicedo than our entire squad - First Team, Reserves and Academy. The team they put out tonight is probably valued higher than our entire club - nuts, bolts and kitchen sink! We drew with Rotherham, bottom of the Championship. How do they expect us to beat Chelsea?

Noni Madueke is back out there for Chelsea and seems to be moving freely.

    Chelsea 4-0 Middlesbrough (Agg: 4-1)

A rare chance for Middlesbrough to get the ball into the Chelsea box comes to nothing as the hosts comfortably deal with a deep free-kick.

Thiago Silva was booked for the challenge that led to it, though.

Chelsea don't look finished do they? They look hungry for goals.

Sometimes managers tell them to ease off in the second half, but they don't look likely to be doing that.

Lovely bit of skill by Cole Palmer down the left to nutmeg Hayden Hackney.

The cross is every bit as poor as the skill was impressive but it is just about kept in on the far side.

Chelsea work the ball inside and Levi Colwill lashes the ball just wide.

Not a good sight for Chelsea as Noni Madueke, just a few minutes after coming on, is down and looks in pain.

He was challenged by Daniel Barlaser after the Boro man was caught in possession again but strained to get back.

The challenge was a fair one but Madueke is holding his shoulder as he walks off. No decision on whether he'll be able to continue yet.

It looks like a few of the away fans have seen enough. There's some gaps in the Middlesbrough end now as some supporters seem to have left.
