    Axel Disasi

    Chelsea are rampant!

There is just so much room for the home side when they win the ball back.

Cole Palmer plays in Raheem Sterling down the right, Axel Disasi is up with him and Sterling squares for him to calmly stroke the ball into the far corner.

Is there any way back for Middlesbrough now?

If I was Middlesbrough I wouldn't change it up now. You don't want to go gung-ho straight away as it can get messy.

    You'd wait until half-time.

It is Enzo Fernandez who wheels away and knee slides into the corner and all of a sudden, Stamford Bridge is very, very noisy,

He gave the keeper no chance. Chelsea are two up and in full control of the tie.

  7. goal

GOAL - Chelsea 2-0 Middlesbrough (Agg: 2-1)published at 28 mins

    Enzo Fernandez

Lovely Chelsea move and Enzo Fernandez is there to thump the ball past Tom Glover!

Axel Disasi plays the ball down the line to Raheem Sterling, whose clever back heel has the full-back darting into the box.

Diasasi cuts it back for Armando Broja and although his contact isn't the cleanest, it sends the ball across the six-yard box for Fernandez to sweep home.

Chelsea lead for the first time in the tie.

Rav van den Berg looks like he might be caught out by a ball in behind him.

Mykhailo Mudryk is ready to burst into the box but the Boro defender does enough to see it behind for a goal kick.

It's a bit ridiculous that Chelsea's best players are two perennially injured fullbacks and a 39 year old centre half.

    Chelsea 1-0 Middlesbrough (Agg: 1-1)

Middlesbrough look like they might be in on the counter after a kind ricochet in midfield but Levi Colwill races across to mop up.

The home fans are making the noise now, the tie is level but their side is in the ascendency.

  11. 'Chelsea seem more calm in this leg'published at 20:24 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Chelsea 1-0 Middlesbrough (Agg: 1-1)

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

There is a little bit more of a calmness about them.

Broja is always trying to stretch that play and it creates pockets of space for the Chelsea players to get onto it.

Pete: Chelsea needed that goal. Boro are going to score looking how fragile the Blues defence looks, so we need a couple more.

Arjun: Well, that’s about the only way Chelsea looked like scoring - an own goal! Great play and pass by Chilwell though. Sorely missed.

    Chelsea 1-0 Middlesbrough (Agg: 1-1)

The ball somehow gets through Ben Chilwell's legs and having initially looked like it was running out of play, it slows up.

Rav van den Berg gets to it but his touch is too heavy under pressure from Chilwell and Chelsea get away with a goal kick.

Goalkeepers get away with anything. If that was an outfield player clattering into Chilwell, it would have been a stone wall penalty.

Good response from Middlesbrough to conceding.

A clever short corner routine gets the ball into Morgan Rogers, he creates space in the box and gets his shot away but it is too close to Djordje Petrovic.

    That was a decent chance.

  16. 'Chelsea back in it'published at 20:17 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Chelsea 1-0 Middlesbrough (Agg: 1-1)

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Really, really good play by Raheem Sterling. He keeps his cool and plays it and I'm not sure it is Broja who scores, I think it comes of Jonny Howson.

He is trying to encourage his team-mates and get them up for it but Chelsea are back in the tie.

  17. goal

GOAL - Chelsea 1-0 Middlesbrough (Agg: 1-1)published at 15 mins

    Jonny Howson (og)

Chelsea are in front on the night and level in the tie.

It's a lovely ball through from Ben Chilwell for Raheem Sterling and he squares it for Armando Broja.

The striker takes a touch, which gives Jonny Howson a chance to try and make a challenge. He does but that only sends the ball bobbling into the corner of the net.

  18. 'Chilwell should do better'published at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Chelsea 0-0 Middlesbrough (Agg: 0-1)

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was a really well-timed run by Chilwell and I think he can be a little bit braver.

I can't see it is a penalty. I think it is a coming together. In all honesty, Ben Chilwell should have hit the target there.

  19. YELLOW CARDpublished at 12 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Middlesbrough (Agg: 0-1)

Ben Chilwell wanted a penalty after being clattered by Tom Glover as he went for that header.

There's no VAR tonight so he isn't getting it.

Mykhailo Mudryk gets a booking for dissent.

So nearly the opening goal for Chelsea!

Thiago Silva plays a lovely ball over the top, Ben Chilwell times his run in behind perfectly.

Tom Glover comes rushing out of the Middlesbrough goal but Chilwell leaps to beat him to the ball. But the header loops just wide.
