  3. Heady heights for Wolvespublished at 16:10 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United

Wolves being up to eighth in the Premier League table means they are in their highest placing in the competition since 21 May 2022 (also eighth, after 37 games).

  4. 'Tremendous character'published at 16:08 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Sheff Utd

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder speaking to BBC Match Of The Day: "We didn't just stay in the game in the second half, we were more than a match for the opposition. I thought the players showed tremendous character. The team gave everything today, but we need to find that better moment, which they found for that goal and which we could not find for the second half.

"We are up against a team which turned Spurs over last week, an established Premier League club which doesn't need to build through the season. I want to make sure we can compete, but also have a threat at the other end."

On the clash between Souza and Robinson: "I'm not going to be too critical as long as it doesn't overstep the line."

  5. 'Sarabia does the right thing'published at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United

    Wolves

Wolves manager Gary O'Neil to Sky Sports on Pablo Sarabia putting the ball out of play when Vini Souza went down rather than shooting for an open goal: "Pablo does the right thing, 100%. I didn't know what was going on, I thought he [Ivo Grbic] had just misplaced the pass - I don't know how he didn't get it off the pitch.

"But if Pablo had scored I wouldn't have felt comfortable."

  6. 'I hated the second half'published at 16:05 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United

    Wolves

Wolves manager Gary O'Neil speaking to Sky Sports: "I liked us first half, we should have scored a couple more. Then really similarly to the away game, I hated the second half. Part of that is on me, we had a lot of time on the ball and didn't know what to do with it.

"The big positive today was the support of the fans. They never gave up or turned. It's the Premier League, it's difficult to win, sometimes you have to dig in."

On why Wolves struggled in the second half: "Decision making and some technical erros which aren't really us. All of that is an accumulation of the atmosphere our errors create. When we watch that back, the lads will really clearly see the solutions. We need to make sure we fix it. But as the staff just reminded me, we are eighth in the Premier League."

On whether they are competing for Europe: "Not based on that second half performance, but in the league table. But a real sense of reality, that performance does not win you many points."

  7. 'Bump back down to earth'published at 16:03 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United

    Wolves

Wolves manager Gary O'Neil speaking to BBC Match of the Day about the goal: "An excellent goal, we were in a really good moment in the first half with the lads finding really good solutions and causing Sheffield United problems, creating loads of chances. It was a really good goal I'm really pleased, great header, great delivery.

"That second half performance gives me a real bump back down to earth, how easy it would have been for us to not win today with the performance in the second half.

"We need to keep working on being better than that, that sort of performance wont get us where we need to go. We need to work really hard at improving."

  8. 'No champagne football'published at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United

    Wolves

Wolves boss Gary O'Neil speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "First half pretty good, second half lost our way a bit. Really similar to the away game at Sheffield United. Lost our way, really didn't like us at all second half so lots for me to make sure we get better at today off the back of that.

"The fans were excellent, you could see even when it was tough for us against a team that were struggling in the league and you see the fans were disappointed with that, but they stuck with the players, stuck with us and managed to help us get over the line - a big part of why we managed to get it done today.

"No champagne football really, nothing to put in the best practice folder but a win in the Premier League and it moves us up to eighth, three points in the Premier League is always tough so the boys did well to put another three on the board."

On why it dropped off in the second half: "It'd be a long explanation. Loads of errors, just really bad at finding solutions. Technical errors, players letting the ball run under their foot, misplacing passes and they created an uneasy atmosphere and we struggled when they gave us time on the ball to know what to do with it.

"Lots of stuff I need to fix, a lot of that on me, I said to the players in there a lot of that stuff, creating an uneasy atmosphere in the place is partly my fault and we need to make sure we improve that and get back to work.

"United are a direct team, long-throws all the time, real big threat from corners the way the lads stood up to that was excellent, kept going even when we made mistakes, when we turned the ball over there was no disappointment, a team that was together desperate to make up for it.

"There are loads of different ways you need to win Premier League games and today we had to dig in, scrap, we were below our best and managed to get three points which is very important for us."

  9. Landmark win for Wolvespublished at 15:51 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United

Wolves have already won as many Premier League matches this season (11) as they managed in the entirety of their last campaign.

Their 40 goals scored is also nine more than they managed in the whole of last term.

  10. 'I should have done a bit better'published at 15:50 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United striker Rhian Brewster speaking to Premier League Productions: "We stuck to the game plan well, but it's fine margins. They had one cross, one header.

"From some of my chances I should have done a bit better. We could have got a point and maybe even won the game."

On Robinson and Souza's clash: "It's two passionate players coming together, it's a disagreement. We sorted it out at half time, it is what it is. We're not chucking it in, we hate losing, we just want to stick together as a team. Brothers fall out. We go again next week."

On Arsenal next week: "Especially at Bramall Lane, we will need the fans and all of our togetherness to make it a fortress, as loud as possible."

  11. 'We deserved the three points'published at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United

    Wolves

Wolves players Mario Lemina and, firstly, Pablo Sarabia speaking to Sky Sports: "It was difficult, the second half because we have to hold the ball in this kind of situation but most the important thing is three points and to improve."

On his sportsmanship by playing the ball out when Vini Souza had cramp, with Ivo Grbic out of his goal: "I try always to score but sometimes I couldn't."

Lemina on their performance: "I don't know why [it seemed nervy] because we have some really confident players with the ball we didn't find a way to play in the second half but as we always do we tried to be compact together, strong as a team and we deserved the three points I think."

Sarabia on the prospect of European football: "We have to think game by game, I think it's the key of this team and focus on Wednesday for our big game and after come back to the Premier League."

  12. 'It is a passionate game'published at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder speaking to Sky Sports about the clash between Jack Robinson and Vini Souza in the first half: "You can imagine my response to that. It is a passionate game, we don't want to see that every week but if it takes something like that to get them going, I'm happy."

  13. 'I don't want us to be unlucky, I want us to be ruthlesspublished at 15:42 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder speaking to Sky Sports: "Nothing right now, because I don't want hard luck stories. We've got to turn good performances into results. We had enough of the play in the second half, we had Wolves where we wanted them. That's where we have to find quality and composure if the players want to be Premier League players.

"We've not found that big moment. We had two big chances in the first half. The team is learning in the job, it's a fresh, new team, and the hardest place to learn is in the Premier League. I hope they will learn, the attitude was good, but we have not come away with a result.

""It's a tough one to take, I don't want us to be unlucky, I want us to be ruthless."

On Rhian Brewster: "He was outstanding in everything he did, he will get better and better. He has had a tough time, he has been injured for a long period of time. I had him here the first time, he is a good kid, hopefully he can build on this and be fortunate with his injuries."

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Sheffield United just lacked that quality in the final third. That second half performance was spirited, they gave a good account of themselves just lacked that quality in the final third.

Wolves didn't play well in the second half, they did their job in the first half but it was nervy but they'll be happy with the three points.

Very poor 2nd half from Wolves, always struggle against weak opponents

    Derek

Just the one shot on target at home to Sheffield United for ‘the most exciting team in the division’. This was always going to be a pretty horrid spectacle when you have two teams whose default approach is 10 men behind the ball and waste as much time as possible.
