Still pretty frantic stuff at Tannadice.

United are playing the better football in a match which is end to end at times.

Morton have settled though, and they certainly carry an aerial threat from any set pieces.

With Inverness manager Duncan Ferguson sitting up in the stand for this one, responsibility falls to coach Gary Bollan to issue instructions to his players. And issuing them he is with some aplomb. He's screaming from the sidelines.

As for the manager he's looking a wee bit uncomfortable in his seat...he can't sit still!

    Martin Dowden
    BBC Scotland at Firhill

Brian Graham makes the breakthrough latching on to a long ball over the top, he nipped it away from the onrushing Derek Gaston and touched it home from a tight angle. Decent pace from the big striker and a calm finish.

It had been a bright start by the visitors but all to do now.

  6. 'Raith playing with fluency'published at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January

    Airdrieonians 0-0 Raith Rovers

    Brian McLauchlin
    BBC Scotland at Excelsior Stadium

Raith are dominating possession against Airdrie and it easy to see the Kirkcaldy side are playing with a real fluency right now.

Lewis Vaughan has come the closest to opening the scoring but his angled shot was turned away by Airdrie keeper Josh Rae.

    Who else?

A typically cool finish from Thistle talisman Brian Graham sees the home side hit the front.

Round the keeper. Back of the net. He's still making it look simple - that's his 10th league goal of the season.

    Dundee United 0-0 Greenock Morton

A big home support is packing the home stands at Tannadice today.

The United faithful are clearly liking what they have been seeing so far this season, and will be hoping for more of the same this afternoon.

The first real chance for the hosts, Louis Moult was played in, he seemed to delay a bit with his shot, and Darragh O'Connor did well in the end to get good block in for Morton to clear the danger.

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin tells BBC Scotland: "Morton have really picked up in recent weeks.

"We know what to expect. They're a very well-organised team. Quite a direct team. We have to make sure we deal with the long one and pick up second balls.

"It's made for an exciting Championship campaign for the supporters. Every game on this league brings up its own tasks.

"We just have to go and get the business done."

"It's got the makings of great game. This is always a tough place to come, but we want to put on a good show.

"We're on a good run of form. Six undefeated. Four clean sheets in our last four.

"Any positive point would be massive for us. We're coming here to try and win the game, and climb the table."

  16. Can Spartans put Peterhead to the sword?published at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January

    Peterhead v Spartans (15:00)

When Spartans won the pyramid play-off and a place in the SPFL at the end of the last season, I wonder if back-to-back promotions even crossed their minds.

It certainly will have now, with Dougie Samuel's men enjoying a nice cushion in the play-offs and could go second with a comfortable win today.

The current occupiers of that spot is Peterhead, who have been excellent since relegation to the fourth-tier last term.

Both sides have surprised this season, which makes for an intriguing contest at Balmoor.

There's just one team left with an unbeaten record in the SPFL, and that's League 1 leaders Falkirk.

In fact, a quick scan tells me they're one of very few teams left in the UK yet to suffer a league defeat this season.

None in the top four divisions of English football. None in the NIFL Premiership. Just the one left in Wales, with The New Saints leading the way.

Looking to rock the boat today is Marvin Bartley's Queen of the South, who could use a win of their own to create some breathing space from the pack chasing down their play-off place.

  18. Will the title race twist again?published at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January

Dundee United v Greenock Morton (15:00)

At one point it looked like Dundee United might bulldoze their way straight back up to the Premiership.

Now, Jim Goodwin's men are fully aware they're in a proper title race.

Victory today could see the Tannadice side return to the summit today, should the league leaders and great entertainers Raith Rovers lose at Inverness.

That combination would move United level on points with Ian Murray's men, but their goal difference is miles better. Probably because Raith win 4-3 every week... or something like that.

  20. 'In form sides set to clash'published at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January

    Dundee United v Morton (3pm)

    Tyrone Smith
    BBC Scotland at Tannadice

While the Scottish Premiership begins its winter break, this afternoon’s Championship game between Dundee United and Greenock Morton at Tannadice is not a bad headline act to have in its place.

For United the task sounds simple – to keep their fantastic form going.

They have amassed an impressive set of second tier statistics so far this season – they have lost just one of their 18 games, have only conceded seven goals, and are scoring goals for fun.

Their only frustration perhaps is that despite all of the above, they remain second in the table, with Raith Rovers currently above them.

In terms of today’s visitors, Greenock Morton, they have certainly found their feet after a wobbly start to the season.

Dougie Imrie’s side are unbeaten in their last six games (four of which they have won), and currently find themselves in sixth spot, very much in the play-off places mix.

They have also managed a draw at Tannadice already this season, and will feel they are more than capable of taking something tangible away from Tayside again this afternoon.
