Jadon Sancho, who has not played for Manchester United since 26 August after falling out with manager Erik ten Hag, had this to say about his return to Borussia Dortmund: "When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like I was 'coming home'.

"I know the club inside and out, I've always been very close with the fans here, and I've never lost contact with those in charge.

"I can’t wait to see my teammates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League."

  2. 'Back in black and yellow soon'published at 12:38 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

On the completion of the loan deal, Borussia Dortmund's sporting director Sebastian Kehl said: "I’m looking forward to seeing him back in black and yellow soon.

"He knows this city, our fans and our club.

"Even though he hasn't played any competitive games in the past few months, we are sure that he will quickly settle back in with us, get into top form and use his qualities to help us achieve our goals for the season."

Sancho will remain at the German club until June 30, 2024.

Jadon Sancho has completed a loan move to Borussia Dortmund from Manchester United until the end of the season.

The loan contract contains no option to buy.

BVB will contribute €3.5m, with up to an additional €4m in add-ons, subject to appearances, Champions League progress and qualification.

This deal covers the majority of Sancho’s wages. If bonuses were paid in full this would be over 100% of Sancho’s salary to the end of the season.

  4. Postecoglou a factor in Dragusin joining Spurspublished at 12:26 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

Radu Dragusin chose Tottenham over Bayern Munich, a fact his agent has seemingly yet to fully recover from. "Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world... I can't believe we turned down Bayern. Radu had given Spurs his word and chose to respect this," agent Florin Manea told the Romania media.

It's no secret Dragusin follows the Premier League closely. He had hoped to play in England one day and the opportunity has finally arrived.

Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham's ambitious manager, may have had a big part to play with the player's decision to choose Spurs.

Dragusin has been open about the importance of the relationships he has forged with his coaches.

Postecoglou seems like the perfect man to help guide the defender as he takes the next step in his career. Spurs are building something special and by the summer, if all goes well, they may well just add a few more Serie A pieces to the mix.

Firmino isn’t right for West Ham as don’t think has the pressing pace or creative capabilities of Paqueta, Kudus or Bowen and it’s unsure whether he would want a loan back for six months. Loans are much easier from nearby clubs though as players don’t have to relocate etc. I think it would be perfect for West Ham if they tried to loan Smith-Rowe from Arsenal and Bryan Gil from Spurs.

    Mina Rzouki

The son of Svetlana and Dan Dragușin, former Romania internationals in basketball and volleyball, there are two things you will hear mentioned whenever someone is asked about Radu Dragusin in Italy.

One, the man is tall, around 6ft 3ins, with a strong physique. Such physical attributes have proven to be a hot commodity in Italy, especially in the search for the next great defender.

The second and arguably more important quality, is the player's character. A hard worker with ambitions to continue progressing.

  7. Who is Dragusin and why is he choosing Spurs?published at 12:12 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Mina Rzouki

It looks like Tottenham have won the race to sign Romania centre-back Radu Dragusin.

With a number of top clubs from around Europe interested in the Genoa defender - including Bayern Munich - Spurs will hope their latest recruit from Serie A for a fee of around 25m euros will boost their top-four prospects.

But who is the 21-year-old who was playing Serie B football just a few months ago, and why has he opted for Tottenham over some of Europe's biggest clubs?

  9. 'You appreciate every day' - Erikssonpublished at 12:00 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson says he has "best case a year" to live after being diagnosed with cancer.

"I live a totally normal life," Eriksson told BBC World Service's Sporting Witness.

"I'm not in hospital, I go now and then for a visit but I live at home and I have friends here. Christmas and New Year, the whole family were here - a lot of people.

"I'm going out to try and exercise as much as possible, which is less than it was one year ago, but I have a normal life.

"When you get a message like that, you appreciate every day and you are happy when you wake up in the morning and you feel OK, so that's what I'm doing."

You can hear more from Eriksson below.

Earlier we brought you the sad news that former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has been diagnosed terminal cancer.

Here's some more reaction from those who played under Eriksson and some of his former clubs:

Ex-England striker Wayne Rooney on Instagram: "Sad news this morning. Thoughts are with Sven Goran-Eriksson and his family. A brilliant coach and a special person. Loved and respected by everyone. We’re all with you Sven, keep fighting."

Manchester City, who Eriksson managed from 2007 to 2008: "Everyone at Manchester City is thinking of Sven-Göran Eriksson, and we wish to express our collective support to our former Manager, and his family and friends, during this time."

Lazio, who Eriksson managed to the Serie A title in 2000: "Mister, we are by your side."

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the loan signing of striker Ike Ugbo from French Ligue 2 side Troyes.

Ugbo has cut short his loan spell at Cardiff City as he has not been able to hold down a regular starting spot.

The 25-year-old scored four goals in 22 appearances – 11 of which were starts – after joining the Bluebirds on a season-long loan from French club Troyes.

Earlier this week, the Owls also signed Brighton goalkeeper James Beadle on loan.

Danny Rohl's side remain in the Championship relegation zone on 22 points, three points from safety.

With injuries and Kudus away, West Ham should explore whether Firmino is truly available on loan. Can cover Paqueta, Bowen and Kudus as a ten, nine or winger

  13. Crystal Palace - 'This side could have the handbrake released more'published at 11:38 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

There is a feeling of the end of an era at Crystal Palace as they roll along under veteran manager Roy Hodgson, who has been the subject of speculation about whether he will leave Selhurst Park before his agreed departure at the end of the season.

Palace will not be in trouble but there is the lingering sense this Palace side could have the handbrake released more and that Hodgson could allow the exciting attacking talents of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise to flourish.

    McNulty's pre-season prediction: 12th.

  14. Fulham - 'Rejuvenation of Jimenez'published at 11:33 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Fulham

    Marco SilvaImage source, Getty Images

Manager Marco Silva continues to show his capabilities at Fulham as they deliver in his attractive style and look at home in the Premier League after a fine 2022-23 season. Silva is showing why he is so highly regarded and has guided the Cottagers to the EFL Cup semi-finals for the first time.

Joao Palhinha continues to be a player of real influence after the collapse of his move to Bayern Munich. Fulham will be desperate to keep him this month. There has also been delight at the rejuvenation of Raul Jimenez after the striker struggled to regain his best form following a serious head injury while playing for Wolves.

    McNulty's pre-season prediction: 13th.

  15. Bournemouth - 'Iraola looking like an imaginative appointment'published at 11:28 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Bournemouth

A very poor start increased worries that the Cherries had made a mistake by sacking Gary O'Neil and appointing Andoni Iraola but the Spaniard has now stamped his mark on Bournemouth to great effect. They have moved up the Premier League playing very entertaining football.

Striker Dominic Solanke is fulfilling his long-held promise and Iraola is now looking like an imaginative appointment.

    McNulty's pre-season prediction: 15th.

  16. Wolves - 'A very promising season'published at 11:23 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Wolves

I delivered a very pessimistic pre-season verdict after the departure of Julen Lopetegui, but the subsequent appointment of Gary O'Neil has proved to be very smart and Wolves are enjoying a very promising season.

The clouds that lingered over Molineux in the summer as the wait for Lopetegui's future to be decided dragged on have gone and there is a feel-good factor around the club once more.

    McNulty's pre-season prediction: 18th.

  17. 'Chelsea need to be more direct'published at 11:18 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Chelsea

Chelsea have been slow starters in the first half of recent games. They are playing at a safe tempo with lots of youngsters in the side.

They need to be more direct and quicker when they have the ball. It seems that as soon as they get somewhere, they start to take a couple of steps back. However, I do believe they can get the result against Middlesbrough at home.

Of course, the squad is extremely young. But if Cole Palmer had taken his opportunities at Riverside Stadium, it would have changed the game.

Questions are being asked as this is Chelsea Football Club. They expect to win every game.

This whole business about Chelsea rebuilding clearly isn’t working. Saying 2-3 years is far far too long for a club of Chelsea’s status, or any elite club. We’re not feared or respected by opponents and need to get at least top 4 which at the moment looks impossible.

  19. Chelsea - 'Below-par first half of the season'published at 11:08 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Chelsea

    PochettinoImage source, Getty Images

Chelsea's frenetic last couple of years under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali means Mauricio Pochettino needs time to bring order to a dysfunctional club but there is no question it has been a below-par first half of the season.

Cole Palmer has been a bright spark since his £40m move from Manchester City and there is enough talent in Chelsea's squad to still make something of the second half of the campaign. Whether they will, though, is another matter.

    McNulty's pre-season prediction: Sixth.

  20. Newcastle - 'Mixed bag so far'published at 11:03 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Newcastle United

    Eddie HoweImage source, Getty Images

A mixed bag of a season so far after qualifying for the Champions League last term. Newcastle's Champions League campaign fizzled out after a magnificent 4-1 win over Paris St-Germain while poor recent form is reflected by the fact the FA Cup third-round win at Sunderland ended a run of seven defeats in eight games.

Manager Eddie Howe will hope that victory can re-ignite their season and fulfil the vast expectations of the Toon Army and, perhaps more pertinently, the club's Saudi Arabian ownership.

    McNulty's pre-season prediction: Seventh.
