Here are the responses from Fulham fans:

David: We would have taken a one-goal deficit before the game so it is not too bad. If we had taken our chances, it could have been a draw. Fulham fans will remember that we were 3-1 down to Juventus in our 2010 Europa League campaign and won that round. Watch us at the Cottage to see what happens...

Sue: We were so good for so much of this game that it feels disappointing to have a deficit to overturn at the Cottage. However, we’d have snapped your hand off for a one-goal loss before the game so perspective is needed. Still very much in the tie.

D: Good first half but delayed making changes in the second half. It's usually easy to say that from the stands but literally the whole away end was begging for fresh legs, especially for Andreas Pereira who looked as though he had lost his head a little. Still, on to the second leg with hope!

We asked for your thoughts on Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg between Liverpool and Fulham.

Here are some of Liverpool fans' responses:

Dan: Wow. What a chaotic game. It was thrilling, end-to-end stuff, but in the end - with the amount of chances that we had - we deserved to win. Darwin and Curtis were super, especially because Curtis was playing with a dead leg for the final 15 minutes or so. Good performance overall from the lads.

Ethan: Given the amount of players unavailable, that was a great win. But, we must improve our first-half performances - it’s been a trend all season! Also, Harvey Elliot is not a winger and Luis Diaz should be covering for Mohamed Salah. But it’s clear Klopp has the best attacking squad depth since he joined Liverpool. Second leg will be tricky but we are favourites now.

Andrew: I was really impressed by Conor Bradley! Klopp could save a fortune by including him as the regular sub for Trent. Jones goes from strength to strength - it’s great to see!

Joel: I don't want to hear people criticise Darwin. The goals haven't come yet but his presence on the pitch is immense. He's fierce, gets in dangerous positions and creates plenty for others. Let's stick with him - he's a Red, no doubt.

  4. Is Jones a contender for England call-up?published at 09:08 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

Curtis Jones is a player who "ticks a lot of boxes" for Liverpool, says former England striker Dion Dublin, but could the midfielder force his way into Gareth Southgate's England squad?

Jones performed impressively in Liverpool's 2-1 win over Fulham in the first leg of the Reds' Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield.

Dublin told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast: "Curtis just seems to get on with the game - he doesn't look for any plaudits.

"He passes the ball well and takes a lot of knocks as well. He's got a really strong head on his shoulders, is resilient, has got good quality and doesn't mind a challenge. He can score goals as well. He ticks a lot of boxes."

Radio 5 Live's football correspondent John Murray added: "There are a lot of 'ifs' in this sentence coming up, but if Liverpool keep going in terms of success on all fronts and that carries on deep into the season, don't forget Curtis Jones is a very important part of England's Under-21 squad.

"During Gareth Southgate's time, if you're an important part of the Under-21 squad, you are knocking on the door [of the senior squad].

"If he continues to be a starter in this Liverpool team and if he continues to impress, then he's going to be a contender."

Ex-Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer expects his former club to be "more aggressive" in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool on 24 January.

Willian gave Fulham a first-half lead in the first leg at Anfield, but Marco Silva's side ended up on the wrong end of a 2-1 result.

"It's 2-1, they're still in it and they've got everything to play for at Craven Cottage," Schwarzer told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast.

"Fulham have to come out - they have to be a little bit more aggressive. I don't see Liverpool being the reverse and they are going to go and play their game. With that, there are going to be opportunities for Fulham and they're going to have to be more clinical."

Schwarzer, who played in Fulham's run to the 2010 Europa League final, added: "Craven Cottage is going to have to have that atmosphere again in cup competitions, which we've experienced so many times before in the past and not so long ago. Hopefully that can be recreated.

"I'm sure the fans will be right behind their team to put in a performance and create some history."

  6. 'We're going to go for it for sure'published at 08:58 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    FT: Liverpool 2-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva, speaking to Sky Sports, said: "We knew it was going to be a tough one. You can't play for a final thinking it's not going to be really hard. Even three days ago they were able to play Arsenal away from home in the FA Cup.

"We did really well in the first half, more of a low block than we usually play but we controlled it well. They are a threat with the pace and quality of their attacking players and they can punish you at any time. We were ruthless in the first half but second half they pushed up a bit more.

"They started to create more problems, we had 10-15 minutes of good chances and De Cordova-Reid was a moment for us to score. We didn't take that moment and we lost a few challenges we shouldn't have done and the shot from the edge of the box took a deflection.

"We have to be more clever from a tactical point of view and we should defend our box better for their second goal.

"We're playing at home, we're losing 2-1 but we're going to go for it for sure. In the second half we had good moments and we should've scored another goal at least but it is what it is at the top level of football.

"At home, with our fans behind us, it's going to be a great night for Fulham Football Club."

  7. Making an impactpublished at 08:56 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    FT: Liverpool 2-1 Fulham

Despite only coming on in the 56th minute, Darwin Nunez had the highest expected goals (0.76), the most touches in the opposition box (12), completed the most dribbles (3) and had the joint most shots (4) of any Liverpool player tonight, as well as assisting both goals.

  8. 'We showed good mentality'published at 08:53 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    FT: Liverpool 2-1 Fulham

    Liverpool

Goalscorer Cody Gakpo, speaking to Sky Sports, said: "He [Curtis Jones] got a very important goal to get us back in the game and after that I felt we really dominated, not only with possession but creating chances and then the second so I was happy.

"It's the mentality in the group, in the club, in the city, everyone is like this mentality of just keep going and it doesn't matter what happens and we showed that again today. If you have that mentality a lot of things can happen.

"I love playing with these guys. We showed good mentality and have to keep going as it's only the first leg of this game."

Fulham will be very, very disappointed with the outcome of the game.

There was a 20-minute period in the second half where they had a couple of really big chances and could have, or really should have, taken advantage and made it two nil.

I was telling myself 'they are going to be made to pay for this,' particularly the chance for Bobby De Cordova-Reid. And they were made to pay.

Liverpool looked like they were out of ideas, and like they were a bit all over the place. The substitutions made all the difference. Who's to say they wouldn't have done that anyway and brought them back in the game [despite the chances].

On the flip side it was a good second half from Liverpool and could have been even better if it weren't for the Bernd Leno save from Darwin Nunez. That would have been game over.

Ex-England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson on Swedish radio station P1: “Everyone understands I have an illness that's serious. Everyone is guessing it's cancer, and it is. But I'm going to resist for as long as I can.

“Best case a year, I have worst case a lot less. It's impossible to say exactly, so it's better to not really think about it.

“You try to trick the brain, it's too easy to succumb and become negative and get stuck at home. Better to try and see positives and not give in during hard times. Try to make something good from it.”
