Manchester United forward Hannibal Mejbri is set to have a medical ahead of a loan move to Sevilla.

Hannibal was expected to be in Tunisia’s squad at the Africa Cup of Nations but opted out of the tournament to secure his club future.

Numerous clubs expressed an interest in the 20-year-old, including Everton.

However, he has opted to join Sevilla in a deal that is understood to include a 20m euros (£17.19m) option to buy that predates the recent involvement of INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe at United. If the option is activated, United would have a buy-back option.

Hannibal has made 10 appearances so far this season, the latest in the FA Cup third round win at Wigan on 8 January.

However, he has started only one Premier League game and was not involved in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

Man Utd 2-2 Tottenham: Ange pleased with Tottenham's 'outstanding' fight back

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, speaking to MOTD, said Timo Werner was "outstanding" on his debut, which came in a week that saw a number of his players laid low by illness: "You always want to win games but I couldn't be prouder of the players. They have had to deal with a fair bit this week and to put on a performance like that... I thought the way we handled the game was outstanding.

"They are a good team on the counter. For the most part we dealt with it OK. Our response to both of their goals was outstanding and I thought in the second half we were the better side and deserved to win.

"We've had a rough week with some illness in the camp. Credit to the players they kept going to the end. It was an outstanding effort.

"Timo had two training sessions and played 60 minutes for the club. He was outstanding.

"We have 10 days until the next game, hopefully get some players back and at least some training into these boys. We will give them some time off because they have earned it."

  3. 'I'm very happy to be back' - Wernerpublished at 08:48 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January

Tottenham had their own redemptive storyline at Old Trafford on Sunday as Germany forward Timo Werner, on his debut, set up Rodrigo Bentancur for the visitors' second equaliser.

Werner returned to London last Tuesday, joining Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig less than 18 months after ending a difficult two-year spell with Chelsea.

"First of all, I'm very happy to be back," Werner told Sky Sports. "It's a lot of fun to play here. You see today it's the best league with the tempo and the game. I enjoyed it very much. One point but in the next few days I can train more with the guys and it can go better."

On excitement to be at Spurs: "Very excited. What I see and what the coaches and players did for me in the last few days was incredible. I was included straight away. I want to play in our stadium."

  4. 'It's started to click now a little bit' - Hojlundpublished at 08:37 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund opened the scoring against Tottenham with his second Premier League goal in three games, doubling his tally for the season, and also set up Marcus Rashford for their second in Sunday's 2-2 draw.

Hojlund, speaking to BBC MOTD, said: "It's started to click maybe now a little bit. I think we are linking up better offensively and we can see that."

On his partnership with Rashford: "I was happy to assist him today. He's done that to me in the last couple of days."

On taking time to score: "I know there is pressure when you come here but I am 21 next month. I am a young player, I have loads of time. There is pressure when you are a football player for Manchester United."

  5. 'Ten Hag needs Martinez to make the difference'published at 08:31 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January

    Man Utd 2-2 Tottenham

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has spent weeks bemoaning his luck with injuries this season, whilst also saying it was not an excuse for poor performance.

Lisandro Martinez's return from a second major absence with foot problems provides the left-sided central defensive solution he has craved. Luke Shaw's impending return will give him the combination.

With Champions League qualification disappearing, United's season could hinge on the quality of performance over the second half of the campaign, in addition to having a decent shot at the FA Cup.

The presence of new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe at Old Trafford underlines a far more visual ownership model is on the way. Ratcliffe and INEOS' United football club board representatives Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean Claude Blanc will make their own judgements based on what they see, not what they are told.

Ten Hag needs Martinez to make the difference he has always believed he would.

  6. 'It is a bit frustrating' - Ten Hagpublished at 08:25 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January

    Man Utd 2-2 Tottenham

    Media caption,

Manchester United 2-2 Tottenham Hotspurs: Erik Ten Hag says his sides attitude was great

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to MOTD after goals from Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford twice gave them the lead in Sunday's 2-2 draw at home to Tottenham: "I am quite disappointed, when you go ahead twice and then concede two soft goals it is a bit frustrating, but you have to take it as it is.

"The attitude from the team was great, the spirit was great. We fought and gave everything. The fans were behind us and I think it was a great game for everyone to see, not just Manchester United fans, because there was a great tempo to the game.

"Senior players like Casemiro, [Lisandro] Martinez and Luke Shaw are returning and when you add that to our team I am sure it is a strong side."

On the Hojlund-Rashford partnership: "They are growing together so keep going with the progress."

  7. Postpublished at 08:17 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January

So Sir Jim Ratcliffe has plenty to consider behind the scenes at Manchester United, but in the short-term the onus is on manager Erik ten Hag to drag them back into contention for honours this season.

Despite dropping points at home to Tottenham on Sunday, the draw nudged United up to seventh in the table, eight points outside the top four and 13 points behind leaders Liverpool.

  8. 'An audition for the club' - Man Utd need 'shock' from Ratcliffepublished at 08:10 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January

Sir Jim Ratcliffe alongside Sir Alex FergusonImage source, Getty Images

Sir Jim Ratcliffe got a first look at his £1.25bn investment at Old Trafford as Manchester United drew Sunday's Premier League encounter with Tottenham.

Before the game, the 71-year-old said he was "excited" to be inside the stadium he will either rebuild or replace.

The British billionaire businessman spent the match sat next to 82-year-old Sir Alex Ferguson in the directors' box, who was Ratcliffe's age when he stepped down as manager in 2013.

Since Ferguson left, the club he built to dominate the English game has fallen from grace in a quite catastrophic manner.

With their 'We Want Glazers Out' chants, United's supporters know who they blame for the current mess - with the club never having fewer points or scored less goals at this stage of a Premier League season.

Ratcliffe and Ineos football club board representatives Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc will draw their own conclusions about what needs to change - and the belief is Ratcliffe will be ruthless.

Ratcliffe is going to have his work cut out at United. He's talking of a new or remodelled stadium when the squad is at least five to eight years behind the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City (and that's if he gets it right from the off).

    Paul

It seems the EPL are hell bent on getting Everton out of the Premier League. I kind of hope the big six do leave for the European Super League and leave the EPL in the mess they are creating for themselves.

    Andy

Spurs were entertaining again but they didn't win. Sort of sums them up really.

Aston Villa missed the chance to move level on points with Premier League pace-setters Liverpool as they were forced to settle for a draw in a scrappy, low-quality encounter with Everton at Goodison Park.

In the first goalless draw in manager Unai Emery's 97 top-flight games with Arsenal and Villa, his side could not produce the decisive moment to enable them to overhaul Manchester City and move into second place.

Everton, who remain 17th, one point above the relegation zone, had chances of their own, but the struggling Dominic Calvert-Lewin could not beat Villa keeper Emi Martinez after racing clear.

Tottenham came back from behind twice in a pulsating Premier League encounter to deny Manchester United a victory in front of new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe, attending his first game since a proposed 25% purchase of his boyhood club was confirmed on Christmas Eve, said beforehand that he was "very excited" to be there.

And he saw Rasmus Hojlund drive United into a third-minute lead.

But Ratcliffe's pre-match assertion that United "normally do well against Spurs" wasn't quite borne out here.
