  9. 'A lesser team might have chucked the towel in'published at 18:52 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    FT: Newport 2-4 Man Utd

Newport manager Graham Coughlan, speaking to the BBC: "The best team won, they were clinical when they got their chances. At 2-2 the ball comes off the post and it fell to Antony. I did think at 2-2 we could possibly force a replay if we could weather the storm. Class saw them through."

On character in the side: "A lesser team might have chucked the towel in but I spoke about character at half-time. The lads reacted really well in the second half. When you score two goals against Manchester United, that creates memories. That will live with our boys forever. I've challenged our lads to push on."

On feeling around the club: "This week has been brilliant. It's our first defeat in seven or eight. The takeover has given us a little injection. These lads will live with the memories but let's go and make more memories and close that gap in League Two. We pushed them as hard as we could and I'm so proud."

On the experience he'll remember: "Getting beat I suppose. You want memories to be successful. I'm a bad loser. There's a real good bond in that dressing room and they represented the club immensely today. It wasn't to be but I'm so proud of the lads. We needed those little moments and it didn't fall for us."

On his family: "They'll probably be feeling the same as me, a little bit dejected. It hasn't sunk in for me yet what we've achieved. We've just come up a little bit short on the day."

    FT: Newport 2-4 Man Utd

Newport’s 11 FA Cup home games against top-flight sides have seen an average of 3.8 goals scored per game (16 for, 26 against), with both teams scoring at least once in each of the last eight.

  11. 'The FA Cup is our chance to win a trophy'published at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    FT: Newport 2-4 Manchester United

    Manchester United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes speaking to BBC One: "Obviously it was not the result that we wanted, we got the win that we wanted but the result was not the perfect one for us. We didn't want to concede goals, the first one was great from them, an unbelievable shot. We had chances to make the 3-0 but when you get 2-0 in these type of games everyone wanted to score and get their goal and everything and sometimes we don't get the best decision for the team. I think after we did a great job to close the game."

On his goal: "It was a good goal but we trained on it in the week. We knew that we had spaces with the cutback, Kobbie Mainoo's goal was the same. We knew we could attack and overrun their midfield, we had space for the cutback and I think it resulted well."

On winning the FA Cup: "We have to understand that the FA Cup is our chance to win a trophy and we have to give everything to get into the final step by step, game by game but we know that to make the season look not as bad as it has been, we have to try to win this trophy because it is important for us, we have been in the final last year, unfortunately we did not get the trophy. We know how much the FA Cup means for our fans, our club, for the country so we know how important it is and it's important for us too. We want to get into the final and win."

As a Man Utd fan, there is nothing more that I wish but for Ten Hag to do a Xavi at the end of the season. He is out of his depth at Manchester United.

  13. 'We had to start again to win this game'published at 18:41 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    FT: Newport 2-4 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to BBC One: "The first 35 minutes minutes were very comfortable leading 2-0. It should have been 3-0 or 4-0.. They created chances out of nothing. Our defence transition was not great. We had to start again to win this game and we did. Well done boys.

"We controlled the game, maybe we went a little bit slower. We had the chance to go 3-0. Garnacho hit the crossbar. They had nothing, really nothing and then they scored a goal."

  14. 'Fernandes and Shaw instrumental'published at 18:39 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    FT: Newport 2-4 Man Utd

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC One

Bruno was brilliant today, as well as Luke Shaw. They were both instrumental in that third goal. Luke Shaw was brilliant and they've needed him back in this side as soon as possible. It's the quality in the final moments. Antony had a really good game today too.

Newport's fans are all on their feet to show their appreciation with a standing ovation.

It's richly deserved for the Exiles' players, who sensed another shock - their biggest yet - might be on the cards when Will Evans made it 2-2.

It was not to be this time, but this has been another memorable cup tie at Rodney Parade.

So glad for Hojlund. He’s a good player and his movement hasn’t been getting the service it deserves. Got to say Altay’s performance gives me more confidence than Onana does!
