That's as far as we go here this evening.

It's been another tremendous night of Championship action, and EFL action in general (unless you are a Harrogate Town fan.)

We'll be back tomorrow with five games from the Championship, including the teams in 22nd, 21st, 20th and 19th.

Hope you can join us then* and thanks for your company tonight.

    Cheers!

*Remember it is Valentine's Day tomorrow so if you haven't booked a table by now it's probably too late. Your partner doesn't like snooker that much anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

How pivotal a night could this prove to be in the Championship?

Southampton went into this evening's games unbeaten since September and second in the league.

They end it third in the table and licking their wounds after a 3-1 reverse at Bristol City.

Leeds made it seven wins from seven league games in 2024 with a 4-0 battering of Swansea and will take some stopping in this form.

West Brom retained fifth spot with a comfortable 2-0 win over Cardiff and Norwich moved back up to sixth with an entertaining 4-2 home win over Watford.

What a vital 1-0 win that was for Birmingham City over Blackburn Rovers.

Blues were firmly in danger of getting dragged into the scrap, and aren't out of it by any means, but that three points moves them six clear of trouble.

Funnily enough, despite losing, Rovers have moved up a spot in the table after Swansea were thrashed 4-0 at home by Leeds.

Rotherham looked like they were going to give their very slim survival hopes a shot in the arm but Hull came back from a goal down to consign them to an 18th loss in 31 games.

Righteo, let's take a closer look at what tonight's results have done to both ends of the Championship table.

Like Drake sang, we'll start from the bottom.

  5. 'Southampton are not going to panic'published at 22:00 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

    FT: Bristol City 3-1 Southampton

    Jo Tessem
Ex-Southampton midfielder on BBC Radio Solent

Southampton are not going to panic. You will lose football games, you're going to have bad games in a long football league. They will have a chance to rectify this on Friday.

It's not catastrophic; it's not what they wanted. Let's hope it doesn't turn into four in a row though.

  6. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:59 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

    Bristol City 3-1 Southampton

The referee brings an end to a huge win for Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

The two sides went into the break goalless after a tepid first half but the home side exploded into life after half-time, with Sam Bell tapping home the opener on 52 minutes.

Big Rob Dickie then headed in the second from a corner 20 minutes later before substitute Harry Cornick slotted home his side's third of the night.

Kyle Walker-Peters won Saints a penalty in added time, with Adam Armstrong scoring from the spot in the dying embers of the game and of Southampton's long unbeaten run on a night they lost pace with Leicester and Leeds in their quest for automatic promotion.

  7. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

    West Brom 2-0 Cardiff

All over at The Hawthorns and West Brom bolster their position in the top six courtesy of a routine win over Cardiff.

Mikey Johnston's opening minute strike coupled with Andreas Weimann finding the net late on gifted the Baggies the victory.

  8. goal

GOAL Bristol City 3-1 Southamptonpublished at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

    Adam Armstrong (90+5 min)

Never in doubt from Adam Armstrong as he calmly send the ball into the right-hand side of the goal with keeper Max O'Leary diving the other way.

It's goal number 16 of the season for Armstrong in his 100th Saints appearance.

But it will be nothing other than a consolation for club and player.

  9. Postpublished at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

    West Brom 2-0 Cardiff

Surely too late for Cardiff to mount any sort of chance at a late comeback at West Brom.

They've been undone by the hosts at both ends of this match.

  10. PENALTYpublished at 21:51 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

    Bristol City 3-0 Southampton

    Late, late penalty to Southampton.

Kyle Walker-Peters gets into the box and Joe Williams takes him down with a wild swing of the leg, receiving a yellow card in the process.

    Bristol City 3-0 Southampton

"Ole's" from the home fans as they have Southampton's players chasing shadows.

This has been a dominant second-half performance from the home side to blow Saints - and their 25-game unbeaten run in league and cup - away.

We're into seven minutes of added time.

  12. 'Blackburn didn't deserve anything'published at 21:47 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

    FT: Birmingham 1-0 Blackburn

    Mark Atkins
Former Blackburn midfielder on BBC Radio Lancashire

It's been a poor performance. Blackburn Rovers didn't deserve anything. Defensively all over the place and nothing going forward, you put those two things together and you get a poor performance.

Birmingham were by far the better side. The chance at the end would have been great to take a point home but they didn't deserve it.

We are used to Rovers going out there and taking chances and getting goals - but they haven't. Birmingham could have had three or four quite easily, they squandered their chances. The players have got to do better.

Birmingham beat Blackburn on John Eustace's return to St Andrew's.

Andre Dozzell's finish from a goalmouth scramble gives the hosts the points and moves them up to 18th.

Blackburn also move up a place to 16th by virtue of Swansea's hammering at home by Leeds.

  14. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:44 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

    Rotherham 1-2 Hull City

Play-off hopefuls Hull City come back from behind to get a vital win at the bottom side.

The Millers led at the break thanks to Christ Tiehi's deflected strike but an own goal from Cameron Humphreys (from a an audacious bit of skill from Jaden Philogene) and Noah Ohio's strike won it for the Tigers.

Rotherham, without a win since Boxing Day, remain 12 points adrift of safety and with games running out.

Surely this is game over now.

West Brom double their lead against Cardiff with 10 minutes remaining at The Hawthorns.

Andreas Weimann slides in with his left foot after a flowing move by the hosts which resulted in Jed Wallace's stunning cross.

  16. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:43 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

    Norwich 4-2 Watford

What a game of football, a rollercoaster from start to finish.

Norwich win a six-goal thriller at Carrow Road - taking the lead through goals from Ashley Barnes and Josh Sargent.

But the away side hit back either side of half-time through striker Mileta Rajovic and a stunner from Yáser Asprilla.

The hosts responded just a few minutes later to take the lead again through Gabriel Sara, before Christian Fassnacht made the points safe with eight minutes to go.

    And breathe.

Seven successive league wins for Leeds in 2024 and they're up to second.

Goals from Crysencio Summerville, Joel Piroe and a double for Willy Gnonto helped the Whites cruise to a comprehensive win over the Swans.

  18. goal

GOAL Bristol City 3-0 Southamptonpublished at 21:40 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

    Harry Cornick (82 min)

Bristol City wrap it up with a wonderful goal from the substitutes all combining.

Ross McCrorie gets away down the right and charges towards the byline with Harry Cornick and Nahki Wells in the middle.

Wells does brilliantly to draw the defender away as McCrorie rolls it along the floor into the path of Cornick, who strokes it past Gavin Bazunu in the Southampton goal.

  20. 'Bristol are having an easy ride'published at 21:38 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

    Bristol City 2-0 Southampton

    Jo Tessem
Ex-Southampton midfielder on BBC Radio Solent

The substitute has come on and has done exactly what everyone else for Southampton has done on the pitch - lose the ball.

The two players that have stood our for me are Matty James and Joe Williams in the midfield for Bristol City. They have orchestrated everything. They have dominated the midfield and that's the reason Southampton aren't getting anywhere.

Bristol are having an easy ride, it's just flowing around, and Southampton are making it easy for them. Southampton aren't willing to gamble. There's lots of runs but no one puts the ball in behind.
