Friday has thrown up a couple of season-shaping results in the Championship.

Leeds produced a stunning come-from-behind win at Elland Road to keep their immaculate start to 2024 and unbeaten run at home intact.

In doing so, they have also kicked the doors down in this unrelenting race for automatic promotion and the title.

Then we also had Preston upstaging Coventry at home to move above the Sky Blues in the race for the play-offs. It's been drama all round.

You can read Ian Woodcock's report from Elland Road below, but for now that's all from us.

Join us again tomorrow for more EFL action, starting with Hull City's home game against West Brom at 12.30 GMT.

And this is how the Championship table looks at the end of the night.

Leeds' ninth straight win to equal a club record has them within six points of leaders Leicester, who for a long time seemed destined to go 12 clear again.

Fellow automatic promotion hopefuls Ipswich and Southampton are yet to play this weekend. What must they be thinking right now?

Jordan: Leicester have bottled it big time tonight.

Anon: To be clear, Leeds never turned this around - the officials did. At 2-0 up, the game's over and so is the league.

Andrew Butterwick: Leeds never give up. The band of brothers keep marching on. Magic!

AltrinchamWhite: Away in a restaurant in snowy Austria; took dog for wee on the roof of hotel when equaliser went in. Marching on together all over Austria tonight!

Expat Educator: Rutter was kicked and fouled all game but never gave up, he was losing the ball constantly during the first half but kept going. Massive character test for him and he showed his mentality when most would have cowered away. Massive win, Meslier player of the match for me.

Neil: That's why you keep Rutter on the pitch.

russ47173844: What the hell happened there? Absolutely awful for the first 75 minutes, then absolute carnage for the last 20. I actually think the title charge is on now, plus it hurts their goal difference as well. I hated that for large parts, then loved it.

Sean: Could have lost that game but who cares? What a turnaround and the noise was phenomenal. Still a long way to go but tonight will live long in the memory.

Deanoooh: We had The Farke Effect. We didn’t panic, we still passed it about at 1-0 down. You could see when we equalised Leicester's players couldn’t raise their game, then started complaining about every decision. Vestegaard's face was a picture at the end.

  5. 'A crazy game'published at 22:11 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Leicester

Leeds United's Georginio Rutter told Sky Sports:

"I don’t have words, it was unbelievable, there is a lot of emotion because it was a crazy game. I can’t describe it.

"It is never finished, we are Leeds. For me at 1-0 it was like it was 0-0, so to finish 3-1 in unbelievable.

"We are the best team I think. It [the title race] is not finished, you have to be focused for the next game. But today we have to enjoy it."

So, Leeds have put Leicester's claim to being runway leaders to bed.

The race for the Championship title and automatic promotion is very much on now.

And what a way for Leeds to register their 2,000th victory. Their first came all the way back in 1920.

  7. 'Incredible from Leeds'published at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Leicester

    Adam Pope
    BBC Radio Leeds commentator

Leeds have buried Leicester in the last 15 minutes. The title is on. The gap is six points. There's that self-deprecating song from the crowd of 'Leeds are falling apart again'.

They've done the double over the runaway league leaders. This is incredible from Leeds and Daniel Farke, who has shown masterful management under the most intense pressure.

'Let's go mental', say the crowd. I'm missing a word out, there.

  8. 'What champions are made of'published at 22:02 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February

    Neil Redfearn
Former Leeds manager on BBC Radio Leeds

What a strike. James hits it beautifully. The keeper is wrong-footed again. I bet Leicester are thinking 'what the hell has happened here?'

This is what champions are made of. This is a lesson for Leicester. They've got quality players but if you're not thorough and you don't keep fighting, you can come unstuck.

Leicester are not going to run away with it. Leeds have shown such will, such want. Their substitutes epitomised the term game-changers.

  9. Maresca stunnedpublished at 21:59 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Leicester

    Ian Woodcock
    BBC Sport at Elland Road

I really don't know if I've ever seen anything like that before.

With 12 minutes to go you'd have said that Leicester were the more likely to get the next goal and win this game 2-0.

    They've just lost 3-1.

You felt Leeds had to win this to have any chance of catching the Foxes at the top of the table and they've done it.

Foxes boss Enzo Maresca looks utterly stunned as he trudges off while the Kaiser Chiefs' I predict a Riot blares out of the Elland Road speakers to the ecstatic home support

Leeds were one goal down and on the way to being 12 points adrift of Leicester with 10 minutes to go, but then the game was turned on it's head with three late goals from the hosts.

The second-placed Whites are now just six points behind the Foxes.

What a bonkers night, with huge misses and a disallowed goal to lament for Leicester.

  11. Leicester in disbeliefpublished at 21:56 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February

    Leeds 3-1 Leicester

    Ian Woodcock
    BBC Sport at Elland Road

    Leicester players shake their heads.

They genuinely look to be in absolute disbelief at what has happened to them here.

This will be back-to-back defeats for Enzo Maresca's men and the 12 point lead at the top of the table that they looked to be heading for 15 minutes ago is suddenly, somehow, six.

To paraphrase an old quote, football, eh, blimey.

    Dan James (90+4 mins)

YES HE CAN! Dan James makes it three, thanks to another deflection.

The Welshman goes for power and drives it off Patrick Bamford on the edge of the wall.

What an incredible turnaround from Leeds tonight.

Sulaimon Adelekan: Leeds have turned this around. Double deflection for the goal and I can't believe what I am watching. Leicester will rue the missed chances and the incorrectly disallowed goal.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February

We have moved into five minutes of added time and Leeds make another change.

Less than two minutes of normal time remains.

And Leeds want a third. Crysensio Summerville just burrows his way into the box and tries to get a shot off.

It's blocked then Connor Roberts comes in with a follow up effort.

Leicester repel the danger, but the hosts are relentless right now.

    Neil Redfearn
Former Leeds manager on BBC Radio Leeds

It's a fantastic strike. Yes, it takes a deflection off Faes – but it's heading for the far corner anyway.

Ampadu, in these last five or 10 minutes... fantastic. He's not a big lad but he plays like someone who's seven foot.

    Coventry 0-3 Preston

Mads Frokjaer celebrates scoringImage source, Rex Features

It seems to be one of football's certainties - Preston North End just cannot lose a game to Coventry.

That's 21 league games without defeat against the Sky Blues, a run stretching back to 2007 - and it never looked likely to end this evening.

A first-minute header by Emil Riis set the tone and Will Keane made it two before an own goal by Bobby Thomas left the home side three down at half-time.

It's Coventry's first home defeat since October and they slip below in-form North End, who are now seventh after a run of six games without losing.

There is plenty of angst in the match now.

Connor Roberts is shown a yellow card for challenge on Kasey McAteer. Leicester have a fee-kick in a dangerous position, but fail to really trouble the hosts.

  20. Postpublished at 21:47 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February

Surely that second goal will go down as a Wout Faes own goal.

It's a painful one for the Belgian who has scored at the same end for both teams.
