  1. 'A real test for Leicester'published at 20:04 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February

    Leeds 0-0 Leicester

    Neil Redfearn
Former Leeds manager on BBC Radio Leeds

Leicester are going to have a hell of a job to keep this lot quiet.

Leeds ask you questions. They're already in the final third. From Leicester's point of view, this is a real test: can you keep a clean sheet in these circumstances?

They're happy to deny space, sitting in a low block. It's just how Leeds can break them down. When Leeds go for it, they look incessant. If you're not set up right, they can cut you apart in two or three passes.

    Leeds 0-0 Leicester

Leeds will be buoyed by the fact that they won the reverse fixture 1-0 at the King Power in November.

Can they now go on and complete their first league double over the Foxes since the 1994-95 season? Three decades is a long time in football.

Leeds have already forced Leicester's defence into a few awkward moments with probing balls forward. And they have their first corner...

    Leeds v Leicester (20:00 GMT)

    Ian Woodcock
    BBC Sport at Elland Road

What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? I guess we'll find out this evening.

Second-placed Leeds come into tonight on the back of eight straight league wins, during which time they've conceded a sum total of one goal.

Leaders Leicester have been out at the top since the start of October. They might have had their armour chinked in the surprise 2-1 reverse by Middlesbrough last week but the last time anyone bettered their 78 points after 33 games in this division was Reading way back in 2005-06. The Royals went on to set a points record for this league of 106.

As for this game? Foxes midfielder Harry Winks has warned his side to expect a fast start from the hosts, who have scored in the first 15 minutes in each of their past three matches, at what is a packed and raucous Elland Road.

Both teams have conceded just 26 goals so far in their 33 games, so while hopes are high of a high octane, high quality game it seems unlikely it'll be high scoring...

It's going to be fascinating to see the little tactical play-off between these sides.

It's not a nervous-feeling night. Most people are just looking forward to seeing the top two sides in the Championship without either coming to shut up shop.

This is the game of the season so far for Leeds.

  7. Cheltenham take early leadpublished at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February

    Wigan 0-1 Cheltenham

Could Cheltenham be on course to make it four wins from four in League One?

The Robins have an early lead at the DW Stadium as Will Ferry's free-kick is headed on and Matty Taylor lashes a volley into the Wigan net.

Fourth goal in five games for the striker - and his side will move out of the bottom four in League One for the first time this season if it stays this way.

I'm really looking forward to this one. It will be a belter. It will be a great advert for football.

It's a bigger game for Leeds than it is for Leicester, because they need to win to close the gap.

There's no shadow of a doubt in my mind that Leeds want to win the league. They're aiming to beat the best team in the league, which is Leicester.

It's must-avoid-defeat for Leicester. They're top of the league for a reason, playing some good stuff and scoring some lovely goals.

Elland Road is always a cauldron. The atmosphere is unbelievable, especially when it's first versus second.

It will be absolutely electric. I'd love to go on that pitch. You become a professional footballer to play in games like this. It's always better under the floodlights.

If Leicester can keep the crowd and the Leeds forward line quiet, they've got a huge chance to stay in this game and nick a win. The longer it goes, the better chance they've got.

  9. 'Leeds win would give Leicester doubts'published at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February

    Leeds v Leicester (20:00 GMT)

    Neil Redfearn
Former Leeds manager on BBC Radio Leeds

Leeds have been playing so well. The key has been Daniel Farke's consistency with his team selections and messages. He has raised the bar regarding standards.

Leeds are realistically challenging to go up as champions. He'll not look at Leicester any differently to anyone else.

He'll know, deep down, that if Leeds can get past this one and get three points, it'll be a massive feather in his cap.

It puts a little bit of doubt in Leicester's mind, if Leeds can get the result, and the gap will be down to six points.

Harry Winks: Leicester City have point to prove after defeat, says midfielder

Defeats for Leicester this season have been rare... but going down to Middlesbrough last week ahead of this blockbuster at Leeds has added a whole new dimension of intrigue and, dare I say, importance to this match.

Leicester City midfielder Harry Winks certainly didn't mix his words when talking about the trip to Elland Road.

"We are going to go there with a point to prove, especially after losing to Boro. We don't want to make it two defeats in a row," he told BBC East Midlands Today.

"I've played at Leeds before and know the atmosphere there is incredible. They will be up for it, their fans will be up for it but so will we.

"The first 15 minutes we expect them to come out and come at us with the atmosphere high.

"It's important for us to play our football to manage that and to try to settle the crowd and find our way into the game and do what we do best - and that is control the match and set the tempo."

Leeds United have so far had an immaculate 2024 and find themselves just about back in the Championship title race.

It they beat Leicester tonight for a ninth consecutive league win to start the calendar year, the gap to top spot will be just six points.

That's a lot to get excited about, but Leeds boss Daniel Farke has been calling for cool heads this week.

"We know we face probably the toughest opponent in the league right now but so do Leicester," Farke said.

"We want to show that we are capable to play at the same level or even better."

He added to BBC Radio Leeds: "It's important not to lose your cool and be over-motivated for such a game.

"It has the same value as the other games we play. For the final table it is the same."

"On the other hand it is a special game and it reminds you of when you first started to play football when you want to challenge yourself against the best possible opponent."

Incredible start for Preston at the CBS Arena!

They work a short corner inside the opening minute and Alan Browne swings over a deep cross to the far post, where Emil Riis heads home.

That's a fourth goal in four games for the big Dane - and plenty among the Coventry crowd are already wondering whether their wretched record against North End is set to continue.

The last time Leeds beat Leicester here at Elland Road was in November 2012.

Foxes legend Jamie Vardy, who misses out for the visitors tonight with an injury, was a starter for the away team that day while Leeds right-back Archie Gray's father Andy was an unused sub for the Whites.

As for Archie, who makes his 30th league start in his breakthrough season, he was six then.

Meanwhile, Enzo Mareca makes just one change to Leicester's starting line up as Hamza Choudhury comes in for Dennis Praet.

The headline, however, is that former England striker Jamie Vardy is left out of the squad with an apparent groin injury.

  18. Sky Blues duo back to face Prestonpublished at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February

    Coventry v Preston (19:45 GMT)

Coventry boss Mark Robins has made two changes to the starting line-up that triumphed 1-0 at Stoke last weekend, with winger Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and defender Milan van Ewijk both returning.

Fabio Tavares, who made his first league start for the Sky Blues at the bet365 Stadium, drops to the bench along with January signing Victor Torp.

For Preston, Robbie Brady – who scored their first goal in the 2-2 Lancashire derby draw against Blackburn – is forced to sit this one out with a knock, so Ali McCann is back in the starting XI.

Hands up – who was the last Coventry City manager to oversee a league victory against Preston North End?

Sky Blues fans will probably know all too well that the answer is Iain Dowie, who spent a year in charge between 2007 and 2008.

Even allowing for the fact that Coventry and Preston haven’t always played in the same division during the intervening period, that’s still a lengthy run of games – 20 in all – without a win for the City faithful to celebrate.

However, if they can end that hoodoo at the CBS Arena and secure a third success in four games, Coventry will climb back into the play-off positions at Hull’s expense.

But they face a reinvigorated Preston side who also have their sights firmly set on a top six finish and could leapfrog their hosts by winning tonight.

Ryan Lowe’s team are currently on a five-match unbeaten run that includes victories over Ipswich, Cardiff and Middlesbrough – their best sequence since storming out of the blocks with six wins from their first seven games at the start of the season.

  20. Can Robins climb out of drop zone?published at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February

    Wigan v Cheltenham (19:45 GMT)

Cheltenham manager Darrell ClarkeImage source, Rex Features

It looked like mission impossible when Darrell Clarke took over at Cheltenham in October but, all of a sudden, the Robins are within touching distance of an unlikely escape from the clutches of League One’s bottom four.

Having lost 10 of their first 11 games and failed to register a goal in that time, Cheltenham’s chances of avoiding relegation to League Two appeared remote – yet Clarke’s side have now given themselves a fighting chance.

Consecutive victories against Cambridge, Blackpool and fellow strugglers Port Vale have left the Robins just a single point behind 20th-placed Charlton with two games in hand as they go in search of a first-ever EFL win over Wigan.

The Latics, who would be on the fringes of the play-off conversation but for their eight-point deduction at the start of the campaign, have won four and lost three of their last seven games, with two of those defeats coming at the DW Stadium.
