I think he's alright, so it's fair game to bring this rather unfortunate incident up.

Not so long ago, Bevis Mugabi was down receiving treatment after being skelped in the face by a ball from the Morton goalkeepers warming up.

It did look a sore one, it must be said, but I'd be telling fibbies if I said a few folk didn't have a wee chuckle at it...

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell tells Sportscene: "It's been a quick turnaround for us, it's our third game in six days.

"But the players are in a good place and we're going to be well backed here from our supporters.

"I love this competition and I want the players to show they've got the same appetite. We're going to need every ounce of desire to get into the next round of the cup."

Morton manager Dougie Imrie tells Sportscene his message to his squad before this tie.

"Just to believe in themselves," he says. "The pressure is on Motherwell. They're the Premiership team coming here.

"They've got good players in their team who can hurt us, and experienced players who have played international football as well.

"So it's just about enjoying the occasion and seeing where they go."

These pair are familiar foes despite not having played in the same league since 1988.

They've met in the League Cup group stages, and most recently in the Scottish Cup in 2021 and 2022.

Both ties went to extra time, with Motherwell scoring a last-minute winner two seasons ago to win 2-1, and triumphing on penalties the campaign before after a 1-1 draw.

All five goals in those ties happened in extra-time.

I wouldn't be shocked if we went the distance again!

Is there a more improved player in the Premiership this season than Motherwell striker Theo Bair?

The Canadian has six goals in his last seven games. He was immense against Ross County the other night, albeit a bit wasteful given the chances he had.

But in general play he was great. This piece gives some good insight into his form.

Dougie Imrie is not often linked with 'bigger' (sorry Morton fans) jobs, which seems strange.

Since taking charge of Morton in December 2021, when the club was looking at relegation, he not only kept them up but made them play-off contenders in the last two seasons.

Ok, there are more experienced managers out there. But he's made a small budget go a long way at Cappielow.

The Greenock side are unbeaten in 12 games, winning nine. They've scored 10 goals without reply in their last three matches, including a 5-0 thumping of Dunfermline last time out.

Motherwell make just one change from Tuesday's 5-0 win against Ross County.

Andy Halliday, who was forced off with a slight injury in that match, drops to the bench and fellow midfielder Lennon Miller comes in to start for the first time since his injury.

Striker Jonathan Obika is back among the subs after his own injury issues.
