I fancy Man City at home because they are a lot stronger there. They are obviously confident after beating Chelsea in the league, but it will depend what Chelsea turn up in all honesty. It's a game now that even me watching as a neutral will make me feel nervous. It's just such a big game when they play each other. You know so much is on the line and it's really hard to call it.

Jonas Eidevall said before this semi-final that retaining a trophy is "even more special" than winning one in isolation.

Well, the Gunners have completed the first part of that task, by claiming their ticket to the final at the end of the month. Now to beat either Man City or Chelsea at Molineux on 31 March...

All in all it turned out to be a routine victory for Arsenal, who head into their 10th League Cup final.

Aston Villa's cup campaign which has provided much relief from their WSL woes ends with a whimper.

Carla Ward's side managed just one shot on target across the 90 minutes.

    Arsenal 4-0 Aston Villa

The holders ease through to the final, where they will face either Man City or Chelsea as they look to defend their crown.

Four first half goals including that Stina Blackstenius hat-trick proved far too much for Aston Villa in the end.

  7. 'Arsenal have been wasteful'published at 21:06 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    Arsenal 4-0 Aston Villa

    Gilly Flaherty
Former Arsenal and England defender on BBC Sport

Arsenal have been wasteful with the chances they have had but there has been better defending this half. It's a positive for Aston Villa that so far they have managed to keep a clean sheet in the second half.

A final change for the hosts.

Scorer of the goal of the night Frida Maanum is replaced by 17-year-old Vivienne Lia.

    Arsenal 4-0 Aston Villa

Arsenal continue to play neat football, taking their time to build out from the back and up the pitch.

The home fans want to see some more goals but it seems as though the four first half strikes is all we will see this evening.

  11. 'Subs show difference between the clubs'published at 21:03 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Those subs really show the difference in the two clubs and where they are at. That Arsenal can make those changes and bring on the same quality really in player. If you look at the Aston Villa bench, a lot of them are youngsters. They have a few key players out injured.

    Another chance for Victoria Pelova.

Carbon copy of the chance she had moments ago as she finds space on the edge of the box. This time she attempts a volley but it is mistimed and goes over the bar.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    Arsenal 4-0 Aston Villa

Carla Ward opts to hand some minutes to 18-year-old Georgia Mullett, who replaces Kenza Dali for the closing stages.

Quick introduction to proceedings for Victoria Pelova.

Minutes after coming on the Dutch international has the chance to add her name to the scoresheet, but a brilliant goal-saving block from Dan Turner denies her.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    Arsenal 4-0 Aston Villa

Jonas Eidevall opts to make another change to his side as we tick into the final ten minutes or so.

Lia Walti and Alessia Russo make way for Kim Little and Victoria Pelova.

    Arsenal 4-0 Aston Villa

Arsenal have somewhat referred to type in this second half, plenty of attacking promise but lacking that clinical finishing we saw in the opening 45 minutes.

What has been a constant for them though is the metronomic passing of Lia Walti in the middle. The Swiss has been on her very best slick passing form on her 150th Arsenal appearance this evening.

    Arsenal 4-0 Aston Villa

Fifteen minutes to go at Meadow Park, and barring what would be a miracle five-goal glut from Villa, the Gunners are headed for a 10th League Cup final appearance.

  18. Postpublished at 20:49 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    Arsenal 4-0 Aston Villa

Another break forward for Villa, who have had considerably more joy in attacking areas than they did in the first half.

Ebony Salmon's cross is hit far too long however, and flies well over the head of Rachel Daly in the middle.

  19. 'We want five'published at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Speculative shot from distance from Villa midfielder Jordan Nobbs.

A familiar sight for Arsenal fans, who witnessed her score a few screamers during her time wearing their red and white colours.

This time though the shot floats harmlessly into the arms of Manuela Zinberger.
