So, here's how that leaves things at the top of the table.

Having secured a comfortable win over Luton Town on Saturday, Manchester City have been able to sit back and watch their title rivals both lose at home today.

There's sure to be more twists and turns to come in this gripping title race but history tells us that Manchester City know what to do in this situation.

Scenes of jubilation from the Aston Villa players as they applaud their fans in the away end. What a result for them.

They take full advantage of that Tottenham loss yesterday to stamp their authority on fourth place and now sit three points clear of Spurs.

You would think they are in the driving seat for Champions League qualification, now.

  4. 'A huge result for Villa'published at 18:30 British Summer Time 14 April

An incredible performance by Aston Villa. Given the form Aston Villa have been in and the the form Arsenal have been in, that's a big result. Arsenal's energy was off in the second half, Mikel Arteta's changes didn't work and Villa were able to see the game out quite comfortably. That is a huge, huge result for Villa.

The bailey Watkins combination again! Emery's tactics today have been unbelievable. UTV!! Great game by Konsa, Tielemans and Watkins!

Who saw 3 away wins today?

To take a small positive as an Arsenal fan, that genius Emery will now hopefully take Villa into the Champions League at the expense of Spurs.

Declan Rice takes a frustrated swipe at the ball from 40-yards out and it sails over the bar.

It would take something special at this point but that wasn't it.

Diego Carlos has been magnificent for Aston Villa, a brilliant defensive display. He has been in the right place at the right time, so often. It's outrageous, it really is.

  12. Postpublished at 90+4 mins

    Arsenal 0-2 Aston Villa

It is the first time Arsenal have trailed in a match in 2024.

That is quite an incredible stat, but not the time in the season they would want it to change.

  13. Postpublished at 90+3 mins

    Arsenal 0-2 Aston Villa

Arsenal are probing for a goal but Aston Villa are defending like mad and the home side just can't worm their way through.

    Arsenal 0-2 Aston Villa

    Danny Gabbidon
Former Wales defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

What a finish. Ollie Watkins, the audacity, the composure to dink it over David Raya. He's definitely not offside. Emile Smith Rowe is desperately trying to get back in. Watkins takes it onto his right foot, it possibly takes a nick off Smith Rowe. It's a wonderful finish, incredible. Incredible.

  19. goal

GOAL - Arsenal 0-2 Aston Villapublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 14 April

    Ollie Watkins (87 mins)

It's mayhem in the away end!

Arsenal give the ball away in Aston Villa's half and Ollie Watkins is away.

He has the better of Emile Smith-Rowe, who was chasing him down, and waits to see what David Raya is going to do before producing an absolutely stunning finish, chipped over the keeper and into the back of the net.

    Incredible scenes.

  20. 'It's getting ever better for Man City'published at 18:15 British Summer Time 14 April

    Arsenal 0-1 Aston Villa

    Danny Gabbidon
Former Wales defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's getting ever better for Man City. Bailey on the far post. They do a really good job of recycling possession. It's a really good ball. It's Pau Torres who darts across the near post and Bailey is there on the far post, on a tight-ish angle. Lucas Digne got down the left and fire the ball across. The ball evades everyone and it's a really good finish on Bailey's weaker right foot. That is a huge, huge goal in this title race.
