  3. 'Chance to see what Lawrence can do'published at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

    Netherlands v Scotland (19:45)

Scotland boss Steve Clarke tells Viaplay about the decision to start Lawrence Shankland: "It is always a difficult decision because I have three fantastic strikers.

"I know what Che Adams and Lyndon can do against good opposition, tonight is the chance to see what Lawrence can do against good opposition."

On the return of Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney, Clarke added: "We didn't have Andy and Kieran for the last couple of games in qualifying and you obviously miss players like that so it is good to have them back."

And the Scotland boss insisted tonight's match will be good preparation for the opening game in Germany.

"It is a friendly but it is a competitive friendly. It is going to be a crackling atmosphere so it is going to be a big test for us.

"We have to learn how to play in this type of environment. it will be like this in Munich for our first game so that is why we are here.

"It is great for us that it is going to be a full house, the atmosphere will be good so we're looking forward to it."

    Former Scotland forward on Sportsound

He never gets carried away, he never shows a lot of emotion.

That is part of how he wants to manage, it's level. There are no emotional decisions, it's measured.

And look at the success he's had, look at what he has built. He keeps it simple.

We are getting the rewards of Steve Clarke just being Steve Clarke.

  5. Cheers for Clarkepublished at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

The PA announcer was reading out the Scotland squad there, and every player received a cheer from the Scotland fans already in their seats.

However, the loudest cheer was reserved for manager Steve Clarke.

They are fully behind this man...

  6. Steve's surprise?published at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

    Netherlands v Scotland (19:45)

Steve Clarke did drop a hint in his press conference that Scotland will be trying something different tonight, which was interesting.

"I've asked them to do something a little bit different, but I won't tell you want it is," he said.

"These are the kinds of games to try something a little bit different. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't."

    Intriguing.

You've got to mentally think you are as good as your opponent, no matter who they are. That's your job.

If you don't embrace that, why are you on the pitch? You've got to prove you are good enough.

  8. What to expect from the Dutchpublished at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

    Netherlands v Scotland (19:45)

The Netherlands are on the rise again after a few lean years in which they missed out on qualifying for a European Championships and World Cup.

They got to the quarter-finals of the last World Cup and are up to number six in the world now.

Sportsound commentator Liam McLeod has done the hard yards and written this piece to give some insight into the Dutch.

    Have a gander here.

    Netherlands v Scotland (19:45)

Scotland haven't won away to the Netherlands since 1959.

They've visited seven times since and come away with no victories. Is this the team to overturn the weight of history?

It's 21 years since THAT goal from James McFadden at Hampden.

An iconic moment in the history of the national side as the Scots went over to Amsterdam with real hope of qualifying for Euro 2004 following a 1-0 home win.

The less said about what followed, the better. But McFadden's goal still lives long in the memory.

The Tartan Army are in Amsterdam in good numbers - 2400 away tickets were snapped up for this friendly. And despite the rain, they were enjoying themselves in the city today.

There was the usual singing, bagpipe playing and chanting, and the local bars were doing a roaring trade.

  13. Callow Dutchpublished at 19:09 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

    Netherlands v Scotland (19:45)

It's a fairly experimental, callow Dutch side tonight.

Feyenoord centre-back Lutsharel Geertruida is earning just his seventh cap, while his club mate Mats Wieffer has just one more in midfield.

AC Milan's Tijjani Reijnders also has six caps in the middle of the park.

There's no doubting some of the quality, especially Xavi Simons in attack who has been flying for RB Leipzig this season.

  15. Shankland startspublished at 19:01 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

    Netherlands v Scotland (19:45)

Not sure where the clamour for Lawrence Shankland to start goes now, because Steve Clarke has put the Hearts man in tonight.

He's up against the great Virgil van Dijk so what a time to see if he can make an impact.

Other than that, the team is largely as expected. Angus Gunn is back between the sticks after injury, and Andy Robertson returns too.

"I've asked them to do something a little bit different, but I won't tell you want it is," he said. "These are the kinds of games to try something a little bit different. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't."Image source, SNS
