Switzerland, who will face Germany, Scotland and Hungary in the Euros this summer, are ranked 19th in the world.

They drew 0-0 with Denmark in their opening friendly and have won just one of their last eight games in all competitions, though six of these have finished in a draw.

The two sides last met in a Euro 2020 qualifier in 2019, with Switzerland winning 2-0.

  7. O'Shea backs Ferguson to end goal droughtpublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March

Republic of Ireland v Switzerland (19:45 GMT)

Interim Republic of Ireland manager John O'Shea has backed Evan Ferguson to end his goal drought after the Brighton teenager missed a penalty during Saturday's 0-0 draw with Belgium.

The 19-year-old striker had a first-half spot-kick saved by Matz Sels at the Aviva Stadium.

That extended his run without a goal for either club or country to 21 games dating back to the end of November.

"It's one of those things. It happens with top strikers," said O'Shea.

The longer the wait goes on, the more speculation is going to grow around John O'Shea becoming permanent manager - especially if the Republic of Ireland can get a positive result this evening.

The FAI have said it hopes to appoint Stephen Kenny's successor in early April - some four months ago.

England Under-21 manager Lee Carsley has already ruled himself out of the running, and although O'Shea is focus is solely on March's two friendlies, he has yet to take a similar route.

One to keep an eye on.

Republic of Ireland interim manager John O'Shea says his full focus is on tonight's friendly with Switzerland and not speculation he might take the job on a permanent basis.

O'Shea's first match in charge was a goalless draw with Belgium in Dublin.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) is yet to appoint a full-time successor to Stephen Kenny, who left the job in November.

"My remit was to focus on these two games," O'Shea said.

Marc Canham, the FAI's director of football, said that Kenny's successor would be named in early April.
