Livingston manager David Martindale tells BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound: "I think we could have posed a wee bit more of an attacking threat in the first half, but in terms of chances created by Celtic, we limited them to very little.

"I made a couple of slight adjustments, nothing major. [The opening goal] comes down to an individual error. It bounces off Jamie Brandon and you find yourself 1-0 down.

"The game becomes a little bit stretched and they pick us off. I think Shamal [George] will be disappointed with the third goal. The first goal changes everything, the game becomes so much harder for us.

"It's been must-win since matchday one. We need points every game. There's two scenarios here - we're going to get relegated or we've got a possibility of staying up. Either way, my mindset doesn't change. I'm still going out to win games.

"I could not say one player's not trying. They wouldn't be in my changing room [if they weren't]. This is the worst stage of my career being involved at Livingston."

If he does step out on his own, he'll be well prepared.

It must be hard to leave a club like Celtic. He may have that inner excitement in him to go and manage himself and be his own man.

When you leave Celtic, it's not very often you can step up.

Celtic assistant manager John Kennedy tells BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound: "It was sticky at times but we stayed calm. We eventually broke them down and got our goals from that.

"Very professional performance here. That's part of Livingston's game plan to do that [slow things down]. I think the officials could do more to speed things up. It's about entertainment. But we got the goals and the win and that's what matters.

"The fans want us to play in a certain manner. You see when we're in full flow, the atmosphere they bring and the boost that gives the players."

On the build-up to next week's Old Firm, he adds: "It's probably the calmest place in Scotland, inside our training ground. The reality is we just have to take each game as it comes.

"We need to prepare properly. If you get up too early in the week and let the emotions get up, that's draining."

  7. 'Worst Livingston team in top flight'published at 14:13 British Summer Time 31 March

Former Motherwell captain on BBC Sportsound

Livingston haven't put together 90 minutes performances enough to stay in the league. It's as simple as that.

Lyndon Dykes, Alan Forrest, Nicky Devlin - you can't keep replacing that quality of player with the budget that David Martindale has.

They've had a great run at it, but this is the worst Livingston team we've seen in the top flight.

From Celtic's perspective, it's three critical points.

It sets them up well for next week and that huge game at Ibrox now. They know now that a point or a win there, they have a good chance of retaining the title.

Here's how the Scottish Premiership table looks at close of play today. Celtic are a point clear of Rangers at the top but Rangers have a game in hand.

No change at the bottom with Livingston 10 points behind Ross County and 11 below St Johnstone.

The games are running out. Seven full rounds of fixtures and that game in hand between Dundee and Rangers still to play.

A difficult day for bottom side Livingston, who competed relatively well in the first half but struggled in the second. David Martindale's team remain 10 points adrift.
