    Well that was fun.

What a week it has been for Bayern Munich.

On Friday, Xabi Alonso, reportedly their top target to replace manager Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen and effectively ruled himself out of the running to take charge this summer.

Tonight, their hopes of winning a 12th successive title took a major hit at the hands of rivals Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker.

Goals from Karim Adeyemi and Julian Ryerson either side of half-time sealed the win for the visitors to strengthen their chances of securing a top four finish and Champions League football.

Arsenal fans might take some comfort from tonight's result too.

The Gunners face Bayern Munich and, of course, former Tottenham striker Harry Kane in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The first leg of that tie takes place at Emirates stadium on 9 April with the return fixture in Germany on 17 April.

The Borussia Dortmund players are making the most of this.

Bayern Munich have already retreated down the tunnel but the visitors have taken up a position down by the corner flag and they are dancing around in front of their own fans.

Mats Hummels is front and centre and deservedly so.

What a way to celebrate breaking the record for the most appearances in Der Klassiker.

Can’t help but think since Tuchel’s stock supposedly went up (went to Chelsea) he is just a beacon of failures. Talented manager - yes. Winner - I don’t think so.

He's been pretty much spot on with most things tonight and it might have gone to his head.

    It's straight out for a throw-in.

Dortmund are showing great organisation here.

All the play is deep inside their half but they shuffle from side to side like a well-constructed yellow wall to deny Bayern at every turn.

Just over 10 minutes plus injury-time to go.

    Can they hold out?

As a frequent visitor to Germany I've Always kept an eye on Der Klassiker, intense and near on title deciders. It's strange to see that today's is meaningless and only bragging rights up for grabs.
