A fiery first half comes to an end at the Orange Velodrome.

We've had more cards than chances although Fabian Ruiz wasted a golden opportunity for PSG while Jordan Veretout went close for Marseille.

But it's the controversial red card for PSG defender that will dominate the half-time chats - the Ligue 1 leaders will have to play the entire second half with 10 men.

Right then, here we go. Madrid attacking players have woken up.

    Real Madrid 1-0 Athletic Bilbao

What has been impressive about Madrid tonight is their defensive solidity.

Athletic are fourth in La Liga remember, but they've barely had a sniff despite all of their possession in the Madrid half.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 45 mins

    Marseille 0-0 PSG

PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is the next name in the book, for time-wasting in delaying a goal kick.

The 10 men desperately trying to get to half-time still level so they can regroup.

    Marseille 0-0 PSG

PSG were not happy with that red card - and it's certainly a judgment call from the official.

They'll argue a defender across the other side of the pitch could have got back to cut off Aubameyang's route to goal.

Then again a second yellow was probably the correct call so Beraldo would have been off anyway.

    Real Madrid 1-0 Athletic Bilbao

The home side enjoy a good spell of possession, but are content to knock it around without going for a penetrative pass forward.

    Real Madrid 1-0 Athletic Bilbao

Madrid are trundling on like a second-hand Beamer in a 30mph zone. You know there is plenty of quality there - and loads of gas in the tank - but they're just ticking over gently as required.

  12. RED CARDpublished at 40 mins

    Marseille 0-0 PSG

Goodness me, this is some call. Lucas Beraldo is off - but not for a second yellow. It's a straight red!

The Brazilian eased Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of play just past the halfway line - so much so that the striker almost collided with PSG boss Luis Enrique.

But Beraldo is adjudged to have been the last man - it was a swift Marseille break and even though the challenge was nearly 50 yards from goal, there was no covering defender behind him.

Oh hang on, is it a case of mistaken identity?

The referee is going to the pitchside monitor... did he book Hernandez in error?

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 24 mins

    Real Madrid 1-0 Athletic Bilbao

Uh oh. Not good news for Athletic Bilbao nor Yeray Álvarez.

The defender pulls up with what looks like a groin problem and signals to the bench.

His night is over. He'll be hoping it won't mean his chances of playing in next weekend's Copa Del Rey final are over.

  15. Postpublished at 39 mins

    Marseille 0-0 PSG

Marseille want a second yellow card here for Lucas Beraldo for a push on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

    It's not forthcoming.

Instead Lucas Hernandez is booked, presumably for something he said to the referee.

Whistles from the Bernabeu crowd as the away side enjoy another spell of possession in the Madrid half.

    Another corner forced by Athletic.

But they are too wary of the Madrid counter to flood the home penalty area and the ball in misses those who are there as Toni Rudiger clears under little pressure.

Still plenty of ball for the visitors. Madrid happy to sit back a little and then pile forward when they get the chance.

Toni Rudiger just loves defending doesn't he? The German would slide tackle his granny if she was about to beat him to the ball.

This time it's not his granny in the way but Athletic forward Gorka Guruzeta.

Almost a goal of the season contender from Ousmane Dembele.

He bamboozles several Marseille players with a jinking, weaving run from just inside the hosts' half, surges into the area - and blots his copybook by scuffing a poor finish wide.

Moments earlier, he'd almost set Randal Kolo Muani racing clear but Marseille keeper Pau Lopez just dived at the forward's feet in the nick of time to deny him.

    PSG on the up.
