So it comes down to the final five games.

And if you had to pick a quintet of matches most Luton fans would settle for these; Brentford, Wolves, Everton, West Ham and Fulham.

The Hatters will target the three home games but they believe they have solid chances in all five. After the inevitable defeat at Manchester City, Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu, celebrating his 400th appearance for the town, told us "we think we can win every single game we have left".

Luton probably need to win three as well as not lose to Everton. The injury situation is improving and Luton might even be able to call upon Sambi Lokonga, Gabe Osho and Teden Mengi on Saturday. They probably will not be able to last 90 minutes but any game-time would be excellent news for the run-in.

In these final five games it is time to stand up and be counted.

  2. Sutton's prediction: The Bees are not safe yetpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 20 April

    Luton v Brentford (15:00 BST)

    Chris Sutton
    Former Premier League striker

I am at this game for BBC Radio 5 Live, and it will be my first time at Kenilworth Road all season.

There is an argument that had you had offered Luton this situation before the campaign started, and told them that with five games to go, they would have a chance of staying up, then they would have taken it.

However, I cannot help thinking there have been a few missed opportunities for the Hatters in recent weeks, and they should be in a much stronger position.

This is a huge game for Luton because it is a chance for them to climb out of the bottom three and also drag Brentford back into the relegation fight, or at least make life uncomfortable for them.

The Bees are not safe yet but after beating Sheffield United last week, they probably only need one more win.

I don't see them getting it here, though. Both teams have got a goal in them, but also I don't see either of them keeping a clean sheet.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1

The job is not done yet – but if we can avoid defeat at Luton Town this weekend, then we will be well-placed to reach my safety target of 35 points to ensure a fourth Premier League season.

We have found form at just the right time – and it is no surprise it coincides with the return of players like Bryan Mbeumo after injury.

We are now unbeaten in four games – our joint best run of the season - and only play one more top-half side, with Newcastle United on the final day.

It has also been good to see Mikkel Damsgaard finally get some game time.

The record for fewest clean sheets in a season (three) is jointly held by Birmingham City, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City.

Sheffield United need to get a wriggle on to avoid taking that record.

    Final Score

Time is runnning out for both these sides and an immediate return to the Championship looks odds on for both. A victory today would give either side some hope and keep the mathmaticians busy as the fixtures begin to run out.

Just to give you a flavour of this game these two combined have the worst clean sheet record this season of all the 92 teams. Just three clean sheets between them this season, so expect goals.

The Burnley squad will be wearing black armbands as a mark of respect for former winger Leighton James who sadly died earlier this week at the age of 71.

    Burnley

If there was ever a moment this season that evidenced the problem with this Burnley side, it was when Arijanet Muric, under no pressure from any Brighton attack, decided to stop the ball with his studs on wet grass, let the ball roll under his foot and into the back of his own net.

We pressed the self-destruct button once more and found an even more ludicrous way to lose a lead - I give up.

Despite conceding two horror goals in two consecutive games, I would still keep Muric in the team. He is prone to some howlers, and you have to balance risk and reward with him, but the team just looks more attacking-focused and confident with him in it.

His distribution (Everton aside) is excellent, his quick pass removes so much pressure from his back four, and quite frankly the problems this side has had this season can be distributed far wider than the goalkeeping team.

With Kompany sidelined through suspension, I thought Craig Bellamy spoke very well after the game. It was an honest reflection but one full of optimism, something I have no problem with.

A leadership team should keep the focus on survival until it is mathematically impossible. That is what I expect of them.

Just... well, maybe someone can tell Craig that rainbows are, in fact, very real?

  10. 'A cup final'published at 14:11 British Summer Time 20 April

Sheffield United v Burnley (15:00 BST)

    Blades Heaven

Former Sheffield United striker Carl Asaba told BBC Radio Sheffield's Blades Heaven podcast that Saturday's game against Burnley has to be viewed "as a cup final" by the players.

"This is huge," Asaba said. "I still feel we will not finish bottom because we do not deserve to finish there but this has to be a cup final.

"They need to give the fans something to cheer about and beat Burnley. Let's beat the team closest to us and take some pride from it.

"The players have something to prove to themselves in this game."

In the reverse fixture in December, the Blades were thrashed 5-0 at Turf Moor in a game where Oli McBurnie was sent off.

Both teams continue to fight for a second successive season in the Premier League, with Vincent Kompany's side just four points above Sheffield United having played an extra game.

Brentford's Ivan Toney was restricted to a place on the bench in last Saturday's 2-0 win against Sheffield United and the England striker misses out on a spot in the squad completely due to a hip issue.

Mads Roerslev, Mathias Jorgensen and Neal Maupay drop to the bench with Ethan Pinnock, Kristoffer Ajer and Keane Lewis-Potter coming in.

Midfielder Vitaly Janelt becomes the first player to make 100 appearances in the Premier League for the club.

Brentford XI: Flekken, Roerslev, Pinnock, Lewis-Potter, Collins, Ajer, Reguilon, Damsgaard, Janelt, Jense, Mbeumo, Wissa.

Sheffield Utd v Burnley (15:00 GMT)

    Shamoon Hafez
BBC Sport football news reporter at Bramall Lane

The sun is (finally) shining in Spring but the outlook is gloomy for the Premier League's bottom two teams who face-off in South Yorkshire this afternoon.

Vincent Kompany said the jump from the Championship to the top-flight is the biggest in world football and both his Burnley side and opponents Sheffield United can attest to that.

It is a must win for both, a draw is not good enough at this stage of the season, while defeat will leave them staring at an immediate return to the second tier.

Let's hope the two sets of players are let loose of the shackles and we see an open and attacking contest.
