    Tanya Oxtoby
Former Bristol City manager on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

I think if you were looking at the fixtures at the start of the season and you had one game to save yourself from relegation, this is not the one you would pick.

It is very difficult to come up from the Championship. It might seem as though the pressure is on them, it's not. The pressure is on Manchester City as they are going for the title.

If they can keep it tight, I think they will give themselves half a chance.

  2. Will Man City lack teeth without killer Bunny?published at 18:38 British Summer Time 28 April 2024

While Manchester City have more attacking power than arguably any other WSL side, losing Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw to a foot injury is a major blow.

Their attacking options were demonstrated by manager Gareth Taylor listing his alternative striker options at his media conference on Friday.

"Bunny is our main number nine, but Mary [Fowler] has played there, Lauren [Hemp] has played there. Chloe [Kelly] is capable of playing there, Jess [Park] can do a really good job there," he said.

But none of those players have the hold-up play, finishing ability and sheer physical presence of Shaw.

Man City should have enough to see off Bristol City today without Shaw - but they are definitely a poorer side without her.

Manchester City's title hopes were dealt a huge blow this week as it was confirmed that WSL top scorer Khadija Shaw has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a foot injury.

"It is difficult for Bunny [Shaw's nickname], as she has had an incredible season," City manager Gareth Taylor said.

"Bunny is our main number nine, but Mary [Fowler] has played there, Lauren [Hemp] has played there. Chloe [Kelly] is capable of playing there, Jess [Park] can do a really good job there," he said.

Shaw is the latest important City player to suffer a serious injury this season.

Key midfielder Jill Roord is out with an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury, as is back-up goalkeeper Sandy MacIver. England international keeper Ellie Roebuck is also out after suffering a stroke earlier this season.

  4. Beleaguered Bristol facing historic lowpublished at 18:33 British Summer Time 28 April 2024

By every statistical metric, it has been a really difficult season for Bristol City.

They are on course for the lowest points tally from a 22-game WSL season. They need five points from their final three games to match the 11 attained by Birmingham City and Reading, the two teams relegated in the previous couple of campaigns.

So tough have the Robins found this campaign, they are on course for their lowest number of points ever in a women’s top flight season – even worse than in 2015 when, as Bristol Academy, they recorded eight points from a 14-match campaign.

They will do very well to make any dent in that deficit today, against in-form Manchester City.

Bristol City are almost certain to be heading straight back down to the Championship.

The Robins have only won one game all season and they need to win each of their final three matches, while also hoping that West Ham, who played out a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa earlier today, fail to pick up a single point from their last two games.

Defending WSL champions Chelsea are playing catch-up on Manchester City and will have two games in hand by the close of play tonight.

Chelsea have been involved in Champions League action over the last two weekend, losing 2-1 on aggregate against Barcelona in the semi-finals.

Arsenal dropped two points earlier today when conceding late to draw 1-1 at Everton, massively hurting their chances of staying in the title race.

There's a festival atmosphere outside Ashton Gate - pumping music, food trucks, kids shooting balls at inflatable goals. It's a NewCo dream.

One thing Bristol City have done well this year is create an experience for fans. It has led to them having the fifth highest average attendance in the WSL - only the top four clubs have had better.

The bigger issue, of course, has been getting results on the pitch.

Manchester City could extend their lead at the top of the WSL by six points today if they beat Bristol City.

Rivals Chelsea will have two games in hand having played back-to-back Women's Champions League semi-final matches.

They are licking their wounds from last night's defeat by Barcelona but Fran Kirby and Melanie Leupolz insisted they are determined to not finish the season trophyless.

"I wouldn’t say it makes us hungrier - but it’s the thing we’re now focusing on," said Kirby.

"We’ve always said we want to win as many trophies as we can. A few have slipped this year so now we need to dust ourselves off and give everything we can to win the title, but it will be difficult.”

Leupolz added: "Now we just focus on the league as we want to have at least one trophy this season. We are all professional footballers and defeat is a part of it."

  10. Welcome back!published at 18:15 British Summer Time 28 April 2024

Four down and one to go...

It's bottom against top in the WSL in this final fixture of the day as Bristol City host Manchester City.

We haven't been blessed with goals today - three 1-1 draws and a 1-0 win - but I have a feeling we could see a few in this encounter.

Anything but a win for Bristol City sends them down tonight, but the statistics don't make for pleasant reading.

Manchester City have won 13 WSL games in a row, are the top scorers in the WSL this season, registering 54 times and are looking to pull six points clear of second-placed Chelsea.

Bristol City haven't won any of their last 14 outings in the WSL, losing 11 and have the worst defence with 54 conceded.

Let's see how this one plays out.

United had 21 shots and nine on target to Leicester's 11 shots, four on target.
