"Sebastian Vettel ensured his Ferrari career got off to a nice start on Sunday by setting the fastest time - but then Kimi Raikkonen did the same thing last year, and we know how that ended up. Vettel continues to say driving for Ferrari is 'special', but he was pretty low key in his summation of his day.
"'We did quite a few laps, had some telemetry problems but overall we can be quite happy,' said Vettel, who continues in the car today. 'The first impression was quite good. The potential is huge, but there is a lot to do. It will take some time but motivation is high, not just with me but with the whole team to try to come back as soon as possible. It felt good as a starting point. I don't want to say more because it is way too early for that.'"
Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel is putting in the hard yards out on track, clocking up a flurry of fast laps to improve the benchmark to a 1:21.884.
F1 journalist Dan Knutson in Jerez: "Things are definitely ramping up at Lotus. In addition to the car being flown in yesterday, two more transporters arrived overnight, which brings the team's total up to five.
"Meanwhile, Mercedes chiefs Paddy Lowe, Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda are sitting at a table in the team's hospitality unit having a meeting and cups of coffee."
James Bartley:, external For me the best step up for a package from last year is definitely McLaren aero wise, but the best package will still be Mercedes.
Nick Watts:, external Williams is the best livery. Very sleek. The Sauber reminds me of a Lego car. Hoping Red Bull do something out of the box.
Kevin Eve:, external Re: 08:15 -"Jenson Button didn't have to travel very far to get to work this morning". Hope that's not an indication of his mileage today!
Only Sauber's Felipe Nasr and Toro Rosso's Max Verstappen (pictured) circulating at the moment.
Nasr is currently second quickest, 1.3 seconds off the pace set by Sebastian Vettel.
Meanwhile, Verstappen is fourth - and last at the moment - 5.8 seconds adrift.

"In stark contrast to Mercedes on Sunday were McLaren, for whom Fernando Alonso managed only six laps because of what racing director Eric Boullier described as 'niggly electrical issues' with the car and its brand new Honda engine.
"But Alonso was still upbeat. 'More or less it went as suspected,' he said. 'It's a slow start, as we knew it would be. We saw last year how difficult it was to complete laps; especially the first couple of days. It is a complex technology we have in F1 today. We need time. We have to learn a lot of things in the car.
"'The design is quite extreme, quite aggressive, quite innovative so we have something to discover there slowly. I would like to do more laps, that's for sure. After two months waiting for the first day of testing, six laps is not enough. But we are all happy and excited and inside the garage we had an amazing atmosphere today."
Jenson Button has managed two laps so far in the McLaren - that's a third of what team-mate Fernando Alonso managed yesterday. Still just over seven, yes seven, hours to go.
What does a McLaren racing director, in this case Eric Boullier, have for breakfast? A full English by the looks of it...., external
Sebastian Vettel, yesterday's pacesetter, is out and about in the Ferrari and clocks the fastest time on his second timed lap.
The German improves next time around to lead the way with a 1:23.029, 1.8 seconds faster than Lewis Hamilton.
Meanwhile, Jenson Button has popped out in the McLaren, along with Toro Rosso's Max Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton has started clocking up the laps already, the reigning world champion going fastest with a 1:24.803. Only Felipe Nasr, who is making his Formula 1 debut this season with Sauber, is second, two seconds adrift. No one else has set a lap time as yet.

"Lotus did not run on Sunday, spending the day flying over to Jerez with the new car after firing it up in the factory. The team were originally only planning to run for the final two days of the test but preparations have gone better than they expected and, if all goes to plan, the team expect the car to be out before lunchtime on Monday. Pastor Maldonado will be at the wheel when it does."
Today is a new day which brings fresh hope for the teams. Lotus have arrived in Jerez, after missing day one - more on that in a moment. Meanwhile, Force India are missing the whole test as they focus on development of their 2015 car.
Let's not read too much into the headline times set on Sunday, with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel heading Marcus Ericsson's Sauber. After all, Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen finished fastest on day one last year - and look how their season panned out.
Also, Sauber finished 10th in the constructors' after a miserable season saw them score no points. It's unlikely they will have turned it around to extent that they are now the second-fastest team.
So Lewis Hamilton gets his first taste of the new Mercedes - and he was so keen, the world champion was the first man out on track earlier this morning. After a couple of installation laps, he peeled back into the pits.
Elsewhere, Daniil Kvyat drives the Red Bull, Valtteri Bottas and Sebastian Vettel stay in the Williams and Ferrari respectively for a second day and Jenson Button gets a go in the new McLaren.
Meanwhile, Max Verstappen will drive the Toro Rosso, Felipe Nasr the Sauber and Pastor Maldonado the Lotus.
F1 journalist Dan Knutson in Jerez: "Another sunny day here in Jerez. The air temperature is 3.2C and the track temperature is 3.3C. Jenson Button didn't have to travel very far to get to work this morning. That is his motor home next to the McLaren hospitality unit in the paddock."

"Mercedes were already strong favourites for 2015 before pre-season testing started and nothing that happened on the first day on Sunday changed that. Nico Rosberg had a quite astonishing run, completing what is believed to be an all-time record for any day of testing with 675km - or 157 laps of Jerez.
"Executive director [technical] Paddy Lowe admitted the team were 'very, very happy indeed'. Although Lowe emphasised they were focusing on reliability only and 'performance is another thing', the car's pace looked pretty good, too - Rosberg was lapping routinely at speeds only two others eclipsed and then only on short, presumably low-fuel runs. Lewis Hamilton - who described the day as 'an amazing start; incredible' - takes over the car on Monday."
It was a good first day in the office for Sebastian Vettel, the four-time champion hoping to bring success back to his new Ferrari team.
The German finished top of the pile on Sunday, having completed 60 laps. Mercedes had a remarkable day, too, with Nico Rosberg clocking up 157 laps on his way to the third fastest time.
It was less successful for Fernando Alonso, mind. The McLaren driver managed just six laps. Not the ideal start to the new McLaren-Honda partnership.
Luckily for the Woking-based team, it's not deadline day for them, with three more days in Jerez followed by two more four-day tests to come. But the pressure is well and truly on.
Morning all and a very warm welcome to live text commentary of day two of the first pre-season test in Jerez, southern Spain.
I've got EIGHT HOURS of testing action coming up for you, with the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Max Verstappen getting their first taste of 2015 Formula 1 machinery.
