I've seen some people suggesting Lewis Hamilton is in wind down mode. You can check out his latest BBC Sport column for his thoughts on that.

"My target is to win here, as it is at every race, and that's all I'm thinking about as the weekend starts," he writes.

"People have been asking whether I have subconsciously backed off a little because the championship has been won. Of course you will never know whether that's the case, but it has certainly not been my intention."

Surprisingly in some ways, I can tell you Ron Dennis has confirmed that he is unable to confirm that Fernando Alonso will drive for the team next year. The reason for that is Fernando wants to see how good or bad the car is before he decides to do yet another season like this one.

Some interesting news on Fernando Alonso from Eddie Jordan just now on BBC One about his future at McLaren...

Here's a story that has developed today, courtesy of BBC chief F1 writer Andrew Benson: "Mercedes have asked Formula 1's governing body to clarify the rules amid concerns over Ferrari's relationship with the new Haas team.

"US-based Haas are entering F1 in 2016 and will be using parts bought from Ferrari, in whose wind tunnel they have been developing their new car.

"There is a concern Ferrari have gained an advantage through the relationship."

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, speaking to BBC Sport: "Next year will be very much an interim year for us, but I believe we can make significant strides.

"It has been a frustrating year, lots has been said and there has been frustration around our power unit but that is because we are competitive team.

"We have to make progress. We have some great announcements coming up in the next week or so. Go on the BBC website and you will see it all unfold on there."

    Thanks for that Christian!

  8. A final goal for Mercedespublished at 12:28

Here’s a sign of just how dominant Mercedes have been this season. They go into tomorrow’s race with a chance of surpassing last season’s points tally of 701.

Impressive, considering there were double points on offer at the 2014 season-ender in Abu Dhabi.

Only a one-two will do, however, with Mercedes currently on 660 for the season.

OK, they might not be talking about battle for fourth in the 2015 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for years to come, but that's all that is to play for at the top of the drivers' championship.

Its a tight battle, though, with Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas just one point ahead of his compatriot Kimi Raikkonen, and they will both be desperate to claim the bragging rights.

Nico Rosberg is going for a sixth consecutive pole position today.

Only four drivers in the history of F1 have bettered that run. Ayrton Senna leads the way with eight, while Alain Prost, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton have all managed seven poles in a row.

Lewis Hamilton may have already wrapped up the title, but he will want to finish the season in a dominant fashion.

He's been stuck on 49 career pole positions for a while now, and will be desperate to reach that magic number 50 in qualifying today.

Will he do it? He made a couple of errors in final practice earlier, losing out to Nico Rosberg, although not by much. He has also been a bit unhappy with his set-up in the Mercedes cockpit.

    We shall see.

Lewis Hamilton must be starting to forget what it is like coming out on top in qualifying.

For a while this season he was unstoppable, claiming pole position in seven consecutive grand prix weekends, but that run ended in Italy back in September. He hasn't been on pole since.

Maybe it is time to bring the blond hair back?
