"Sergio Perez, Nico Hulkenberg, Valtteri Bottas, Jenson Button, Daniil Kvyat, Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez all started on the soft tyres. They will be able to last longer out there, so I'm thinking at some point we could see Hulkenberg leading this race."

Lewis Hamilton is told by his Mercedes team on the radio: "We're going to try and go long on this stint and switch our strategy."

A possible move to a one-stop strategy for Hamilton as he looks to get past Max Verstappen.

"That was phenomenal. Let's not forget that Jolyon Palmer has not raced since 2014 when he won the GP2 championship, so you could think he might be a bit rusty."

Some lovely battling between Jolyon Palmer and Valtteri Bottas.

Bottas tries to make a move on Palmer, who 11th, and the Briton belies his rookie status with some calm defending as Bottas attempts a move on the outside of Turn 3.

Bottas doesn't give up, though, and tries again at Turn 9 and his Williams just has too much for Palmer in the end.

So far so good for Ferrari.

Sebastian Vettel is 2.5s ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, who has a 1.5s advantage over Nico Rosberg.

That gap is coming down between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, and Hamilton is clearly not confident that he can do anything about it.

"I can't get past this guy," he says over team radio.

Benedict Salido: Good job Ferrari. All part of the plan, not going for another run at quali, therefore saving tires for the overtake at the start.

Gavin Hall: Already more action than quali!

Lewis Hamilton is on a charge now. He is closing in on Max Verstappen but the Toro Rosso is holding him at arms length for now - half a second between the two.

Valtteri Bottas, who started down in 16th, is making progress through the field. He passes Marcus Ericsson to take 15th.

Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz is in for his first pitstop in the Toro Rosso, pitting to swap to supersofts and is back out in 20th.

"Kimi Raikkonen is now being affected by Nico Rosberg, who is right up close to him. Rosberg is flying and as Kimi starts taking a defensive line it will allow Sebastian Vettel to go even further ahead."

A concern for Mercedes? Replays of the start show Hamilton's front wing clipping Rosberg's left-rear tyre. A small piece of the wing flew off as a result. Possibly some damage to Hamilton's front wing?

"I feel a bit sorry for Massa there because Magnussen was coming out of the pits and was trying to get out of his way and ended up impeding Massa, which gave Hamilton the run on him."

Lewis Hamilton begins his long climb back to the front by attacking Felipe Massa. Kevin Magnussen almost gets caught up in the tussle as he comes out of the pits after taking on new tyres but Hamilton keeps his cool to sweep past Massa at Turn 4 and into fifth.
