Here's the reason why we have seen so little of Haas this morning.

I'll tell you what Lewis Hamilton has got, he's got the need for speed. He's been quietly going about his business this morning but has jut gone second fastest with 1:24.723.

Just under one hour to go until lunch and all is quiet at the moment.

    Time for a testing update.

F1 journalist Dan Knutson in Barcelona: "We know where Jenson Button is sleeping – his motor home is parked in the paddock."

I think Mr T's T-shirt alone could stop Mercedes.

There was a big fanfare earlier about Marcus Ericsson getting his first run in the Sauber C35 but it has been rather quiet since. He's managed just three laps so far, while Esteban Gutierrez popped out for an installation lap a couple of hours ago but nothing from Haas since.

A fuel system problem ended Gutierrez's running early yesterday. More problems today?

Daniel Ricciardo spent plenty of time practicing live pitstops this morning and Red Bull's programme would appear to have switched to track work as the Australian gets up and running with 1:26.940. That's the eighth fastest time.

Meanwhile, Kevin Magnussen has switched to softs and puts down the second fastest time of the morning with 1:24.945.

It is a little quiet on the circuit at the moment. Lewis Hamilton is out there and has just chalked up his 50th lap of the day. He's sticking with the medium tyre for now, will he strap on the softs before the morning is out?

Daniel Ricciardo is also out there, but still no lap time for the happiest man in Formula 1.

Things are hotting up in Barcelona. Up to 14 degrees now and times on the track are coming down as Kevin Magnussen produces his personal best for the day - 1:26.511.

Just as I finish typing that testing latest it is out of date as Sebastian Vettel chips a little bit off his previous best time, clocking 1:24.611.

Meanwhile,  Jenson Button has reached for the softs and, aided by the faster yellow-walled compound tyre, he leaps up to second after a 1:25.226.

He needs a little bit more to beat Fernando Alonso's time of 1:24.735 from yesterday, also set on soft tyres.

We know Mercedes are going to be dominant this season, so we might have to think outside the box to discover what could beat them.

F1 journalist Dan Knutson in Barcelona: "When the fuel system problems cropped up on the Haas VF-16 yesterday the team realised the car could not be prepared in time to get it out on the track before the session ended. So the schedule was rearranged, and the car was taken to the FIA garage for scrutineering checks.

"'We analysed the (fuel system) problem and we could fix it with the night shift,' team principal Guenther Steiner said last night, “but we need to do some practicing of a whole race weekend with the FIA inspection.'

"The FIA has set up its full scrutineering bay in the garages, just like it is on a race weekend.

"Like the other teams, Haas is working around the clock on the car with day and night shifts of mechanics. All is not well with the car obviously as Gutierrez did just one lap in the first two hours."
