Chief F1 writerFor anyone hoping for signs that Mercedes could face some serious opposition this season, pre-season testing has been a slow drip of constant disappointments. On Tuesday there was another.
The world champions finally unleashed the pace of their car during what Nico Rosberg called a “qualifying practice” and he was 0.2secs faster than his closest challenger Valtteri Bottas, who was using a tyre Pirelli estimate to be 1.4secs quicker.
The Ferrari has looked at least half a second off the pace so far and its reliability appears a little suspect, too.

More of the same today?
