Kimi Raikkonen is back out for the afternoon, as is Max Verstappen.

Manor have been quiet today, just 19 laps completed this morning, and Pascal Wehrlein emerges for the first time after lunch.

He'll need to do pretty much the equivalent of the Spanish Grand Prix to surpass yesterday's total of 79.

  3. Vote resultspublished at 13:15 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2016

Speaking of McLaren, you may have noticed we have had a vote running all morning asking: "Which team will provide the biggest surprise of the season?"

It is McLaren who have come out on top with a whopping 44% of the vote. Haas were second with 15%.

True, but McLaren have got plenty of mileage done in testing so far, particularly this week. The reliability alone is a big step forward from 2015.

Lewis Hamilton takes over from Nico Rosberg this afternoon. He's in no desperate to rush to get back out there just yet, instead Felipe Massa, Felipe Nasr and Nico Hulkenberg are the first three drivers to return to the circuit.

  7. Go! Go! Go!published at 13:03 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2016

The three fastest times from today were all set on the ultra soft tyre. Will Fernando Alonso be tempted to give it a go this afternoon?

The green flag is waved so lunch is over, although there will probably be a few drivers who opt for a longer lunch.

  10. Haas updatepublished at 12:48 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2016

F1 journalist Dan Knutson in Barcelona: "Haas driver Romain Grosjean caused the red flag just before the lunch break when he slid off into the gravel trap.

"'I locked the front wheel and went straight,' he said at lunch, and it has since been confirmed that he was having problems with the brake balance.

"It took a while for the team to get the car running consistently this morning, but eventually Grosjean did 58 laps before going off the track.

"'We had some issues early in the morning,' he said. 'I don’t know exactly what they were, and then we went for a long stint because we want to put mileage on the car. We did manage to go quite long on the tyres and the car, which is good. So (the plan is for) more longer runs this afternoon.'"

A mini-stir was created in F1 earlier this week when Fernando Alonso mentioned on Spanish radio the idea of a swap deal between him and Lewis Hamilton in 2014 when he was still at Ferrari.

Alonso said: “We were at a point in the championship where there were the circumstances for that idea so this was tried in some ways. But Ferrari did not want it at that time; they were in the middle of negotiations with me to renew until 2019. This was the offer I had on the table – and in the end the Ferrari offer did not convince me and I went to McLaren-Honda with new expectations because I thought that the cycle had ended.”

This actually did emerge at the time, during a febrile summer when it became clear Alonso may not see out his Ferrari contract.

My sources have told me that what happened was that Alonso’s manager Flavio Briatore was trying to make a swap between the two drivers happen, but Mercedes were not interested. They were negotiating a contract renewal with Hamilton at the time and keeping him was their prime objective. Only if they had not been able to come to a deal with Hamilton - which was never likely - would they have turned to Alonso. And Toto Wolff told Alonso that at the time.

Favourite thing to come out of this morning? Kimi Raikkonen's typically monotone response when asked for his thoughts on the halo head protection device he tested early on.

Romain Grosjean's Haas has been recovered from the gravel at Turn 7 and whisked back to the pits.

Crucially for Grosjean, it means he will be 10 minutes later for the lunchtime buffet.

I bet there's only cheese and ham triangle sandwiches left when he gets back.

Kimi Raikkonen finishes the morning with the fastest time.
