The Mercedes has been like a certain battery operated bunny - it has just kept going and going and going but it finally seems as though they have hit a snag.

Williams have been doing their usual understated job in testing, just quietly getting on with things. But on Thursday Felipe Massa finally tried a low-fuel, qualifying-style run and ended up with second-fastest time.

Williams appear to be about where they were last year - third behind Mercedes and Ferrari. Chief technical officer Pat Symonds said: “I think in absolute terms, positionally, we are looking to be in a similar position to last year. I believe we are a little closer to Mercedes and Ferrari. A huge pack snapping at our heels. It does appear to be quite close in the midfield. On the face of it, I don't think Mercedes have grown the gap.”

However, he added that the vagaries of testing meant it was “quite easy” to get those assumptions wrong.

No worries Dean - so from softest to hardest:

Like I said, give it a minute or two.

Several cars head back out on to the circuit for the final 20 minutes of testing. Sergio Perez, third fastest on super soft so far, is out on ultra soft.

    Nothing. No-one is on it.

Give it a minute or two though...
