A Mercedes one-two in qualifying once again, nothing new there.

However, Ferrari did show glimpses of being able to challenge closely this weekend before Lewis Hamilton decided to go full Hammertime and blow the competition out of the park

Hamilton, though, didn't have the best of starts in Australia, and that went on to be one of the most thrilling races in recent years.

More of the same on Sunday? Have a read of Andrew Benson's thoughts on qualifying here and join us for build up to the race from 14:30 BST tomorrow.

    Jenson Button (McLaren) - P14

"Not a great lap. We had a chance of Q3. Whether or not we would have got in I don't know. Hopefully tomorrow we will do better than in qualifying."

Stoffel Vandoorne qualified 12th to give him a real shot of a points finish in his first-ever Formula 1 race tomorrow.

He also out qualified former world champion Jenson Button in the process. Not a bad day at all...

Jolyon Palmer finished 11th on his Formula 1 debut in Australia, but he has it all to do tomorrow from 19th on the grid. He's shown no fear when overtaking, though, and there are opportunities around the Sakhir circuit. One to watch.

In the words of Justin Timberlake, he's bringing sexy back (to F1).

A second successive pole position for Lewis Hamilton after taking P1 at the season-opener in Australia.

He called the laps he did in qualifying in Melbourne sexy laps, I wonder what he calls that one at the end there today? That was as sexy as they come!

Sebastian Vettel, P3: "I was very happy with the first attempt. The second attempt was more or less copy and paste, but that’s not enough if they improve by five tenths. There isn’t one place on the track where the car doesn't feel right. Step by step we’re getting there. We know what to do, so we’ll see. It’s a long race and let’s see what happens tomorrow."

Nico Rosberg, P2: "My lap felt good and I was sure I was on pole. Lewis put in an incredible lap to beat me. This track is where pole counts least I think. There are still a lot of opportunities."

Lewis Hamilton, pole position: "It’s not been a smooth sailing weekend in terms of pace. I was generally struggling to put laps together and luckily the lap I did put together was the last one. The car felt great. It’s incredible to think we are quicker than the V10 days. It shows how far the technolology has come."

Well a bit more drama towards the end there compared to Australia, but still too much empty track time in my opinion.

Plus, it was the brilliance of Lewis Hamilton that provided the late thrills, rather than the system itself.
