Fernando Alonso is 10th, right on the edge of danger and Esteban Gutierrez is on a lap, but he only goes 16th quickest, so Alonso is through to the top 10 shootout. Great scenes!

No drama for Kimi Raikkonen as he puts in a 1:23.504 to go fourth quickest but that means Max Verstappen will finish this session quicker than the Ferraris.

Can I just say for my two-penneth, Hamilton, in the first two races, went out, got pole position and was awesome - scintillating pole positions they were in the first two races in Australia and Bahrain. The last two races he hasn't been able to fight for pole positions because of technical flaws so don't write Hamilton off too soon.

Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel can only go fourth quickest, 1.5s down down Nico Rosberg. Looks like this is going to be a Mercedes battle for pole position once again...

Kimi Raikkonen abandons his lap to swap for fresh softs so the Finn is only going to have one shot at getting himself into the top 10. No room for error.

Max Verstappen, once again, has his Red Bull team-mate sweating. Moments after Daniel Ricciardo clocks 1:23.703 to go P3, Max Verstappen comes to the party with a 1:23.178, more than half a second quicker than Ricciardo!

    Lewis Hamilton, wowzers!

He's been outpaced by Nico Rosberg throughout this weekend but straight off the bat in Q2 he throws down a 1:22.159, going SIX TENTHS of a second quicker than Nico Rosberg. Bosh!

Well Jolyon Palmer had a very good debut in Melbourne but has struggled since then. He is a great driver, and with a bit more time he could be a great F1 driver. You've got to give him more time to prove it

A 23.8 is roughly what you are going to need to get through to Q3

The battle to get into the top 10 shootout is under way as Nico Rosberg heads towards the pit exit, watched by a fan from the paddock club who is dangling a glass of champers rather precariously over the balcony while texting.
