Andrew Benson has done a tremendous interview with Daniel Ricciardo - also known as the Honey Badger.

Honey Badgers are much less cute and much likely to bite your face off than their name suggests.

    Anyway, here's an excerpt:

This interview is primarily for the BBC Sport website, you tell him.

But this big microphone you're holding, it's so it can run on 5 live, too, if necessary.

"So no swearing, then," he says.

    "Definitely not."

"Shall I get it out now?"

    "OK."

And there follows a succession of lurid curse words straight out of the movie Old School, said with the comic timing of The Thick Of It's Malcolm Tucker.

"Done," Ricciardo says, the smile broader than ever. "Got it."

And then that back-of-the-throat chuckle he has.

  5. Ericsson out of qualifyingpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 9 July 2016

Even if Sauber were able to get Marcus Ericsson's car gaffer taped up in time for qualifying, there will be no driver to put it around the track as Ericsson is getting looked over at hospital.

It's for the best, it was a horrible shunt in FP3.

Here's how Silverstone looks these days - the Arena layout introduced in 2010.

Full pelt into Abbey from the start, and then the mesmerising run into Copse at Turn Nine through the Maggotts-Becketts slalom from Turn 10. It's an absolutely joy to watch an F1 car scythe through that section.

You do not know how happy I am that Gary got marshals to line up like they're in a six-a-side football team.

Here's a group of people that are the very heartbeat of this, and any, grand prix - the marshals. Giving up their time and undoubtedly working as long and as hard as anyone at a race weekend to help ensure it runs smoothly and safely.

I interrupted their lunch of sandwiches and flasks of tea to grab a photo, but want an idea of how selfless they are? I asked one of their number for their name and rather than give just his he said: "There's lots of us and all our names are in the programme."

  12. Could we see some dobbing in?published at 12:28 British Summer Time 9 July 2016

Track limits is an issue here this weekend and was discussed extensively in the drivers’ briefing on Friday afternoon. The key corners in question are Turns Nine, 15 and 18 - better known as Copse, Stowe and Club. These were being abused excessively on Friday - Max Verstappen, for example, went beyond the track 15 times at Copse during the second session alone, and the Ferrari drivers only one fewer.

FIA F1 director Charlie Whiting told the drivers there would be zero tolerance of anyone who went off track on the exits at these corners and times on such laps would be deleted in qualifying. In the race, this may well lead to drivers “dobbing each other in” - as anyone who watched the 2014 race may remember Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel doing amusingly to each other during their memorable battle.

On the subject of McLaren’s improvement, by the way, there is an upgraded Honda engine here. It has a revamped intake design, which is said to increase by 12kw, about 16bhp. That still leaves Honda a big chunk behind the best - probably about 50-60bhp - but they are creeping closer.
