The best qualifying session of the year on Saturday could well be followed by the craziest race on Sunday. Formula 1’s impressions of the new Baku street track are generally positive and its layout seems certain to produce drama in the race.

‘It’s a very exciting track,’ says pole man Nico Rosberg. 'It’s a tough track, so that’s why we have been seeing so many mistakes everywhere and that’s why the race is going to be - for sure - very, very interesting. I think there’s going to be a lot going on'.

What a qualifying session we had yesterday.

Best of the season so far? You betcha.

Lewis Hamilton decided to control his steering wheel with his feet for the afternoon - with spectacular results. More on that shortly.

That meant Nico Rosberg cruised to an imperious pole. Sergio Perez was second quickest, but drops down to seventh because of a gear box change. That means Daniel Ricciardo starts second and Sebastian Vettel third.

The Baku track has been a beauty, no doubt about it.

The old castle and Maiden Tower that loom over the tarmac have really added a sense of grandeur.

So, what world landmarks do you think would be worthy of gracing F1's greatest tracks?

The Leaning of Tower of Pisa? Big Ben?

I've gone for a giant cardboard cut-out of Kimi Raikkonen - he'd enhance any circuit, staring down on the little people below.

Just to further reinforce its preference to be regarded as a Europe-leaning nation, this Azerbaijan race will start at the traditional European time of 14:00 BST.

We'll have commentary on BBC Radio 5 live, but until then, it's just you and me. So let's have some fun.

"Lack of run-offs! Narrow streets! Is it even in Europe?!"

The European Grand Prix at the Baku City Circuit was consigned to failure before it even started.

A few wild practice and qualifying sessions later, and suddenly it's the coolest thing since Kimi Raikkonen licked an igloo.

This should be fun - a lot of fun.
