    Wins from pole

Nico Rosberg is on pole but there's hope from history for Lewis Hamilton. Just 13 of the previous Hungarian GPs have been won from that position.

Red Bull's team principal Christian Horner, whose cars start third and fourth, tells Radio 5 live's Jennie Gow that tyres - and making them last - will be key to today's race.

"These tyres are sensitive in different temperatures," he says.

"It's about looking after these tyres and making this stint long enough to put the cars ahead under pressure.

"Our main objective is to try and beat Ferrari here - anything ahead is just opportunistic."

  7. What strategy to expect?published at 12:48 British Summer Time 24 July 2016

Race strategy for those in the top 10 looks obvious - a two-stop, starting on the mandatory super-softs and then two stints on the softs. A three-stop is not appealing, because overtaking is so hard. A two-stop is a bit marginal, though. Drivers have to do at least 10 laps, and ideally 12 or so, before their first stop because the projected life of the soft is 29 laps, and the race is 70 laps long.

Normally Mercedes can run longer than the projection the start tyres because their pace is so strong but if the Red Bulls and Vettel are close, they will not be able to risk being under-cut. Oddly, the teams’ computers are showing a one-stop, starting on the soft and then going to mediums, as the best strategy. Not because it is quickest but because it gives track position. But this is not available to the top 10, who have to start on the tyres they used to set their fastest laps in second qualifying. Problem is, hardly anyone has done any running on the mediums so no-one knows how it will behave, and it does not like hot temperatures - and the track temperature is nudging 50C.

  11. Staying within the limitspublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 24 July 2016

Drivers have been warned to respect track limits during the race at Turns Four and 11, where the run-off has by mistake been laid at the same height as the kerbs, removing any penalty for going off track - and making it potentially faster to do so.

Sensors have been placed in the track which detect when a car has gone more than 20cm beyond the white line that designates the edge of the track. Any car that has broken this limit three times at these corners will be shown a black-and-white, which is a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct.

If he does it again, it will be reported to the stewards and this is likely to result in a drive-through penalty.

McLaren's Fernando Alonso is happy to be starting seventh and is very keen to finish in the points after going scoreless in the past four races.

"It's been very good so far, this weekend," says the Spaniard.

"P7 in every session - hopefully today we can improve that. If we can put both cars in the top eight it will be a great result for the team.

"We need to be realistic - the top five cars are out of reach."

Lewis Hamilton has abandoned his opposition to the halo head protection device that could be introduced into Formula 1 next year.

The Mercedes driver had previously said it was the "worst-looking modification in F1 history".

But after a presentation by the FIA on the benefits of the halo, Hamilton said he had been convinced.

"I don't think we can ignore it," Hamilton said. "It's a safety thing that we all have to accept."

McLaren drivers Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button believe they can have both cars in the points for the first time since the start of the team’s new relationship with Honda. They start seventh and eighth. And although qualifying was wet-dry, that is not an inaccurate reflection of their pace through the weekend - particularly that of Alonso, who has looked the more comfortable in the car.

“Rain would help us,” said Alonso, although this is looking a forlorn hope. “We seem a little more competitive in those conditions. But this weekend we are also competitive in dry conditions. whatever conditions are we should be confident we can score points.”

Button added: “The top five cars are going to disappear wet or dry and the fight is really from sixth back. In the dry our pace has been reasonably good and it is going to be a good fight from where we are on the grid.”

Their main fight may well be with Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz, who did an excellent job to line up sixth.
