Nico Rosberg sets the quickest time on slower tyres than the rest of the field - he's clocked a 1:48.019.
Meanwhile, Felipe Nasr goes into P2 and then mysteriously disappears off the board... ah, he cut the corner at Turn Four and the stewards are having none of it.

In very high track temperatures - especially on circuits like this - the harder compound of the tyre can actually give you more support and consistency.
Therefore you can actually get a faster lap time, even though you've got less grip, purely because the car gives that little bit more feeling.
Esteban Gutierrez sets the early pace with a 1:49.291 and Haas team-mate Romain Grosjean goes two tenths slower.
Nico Rosberg goes out on soft tyres - hoping to save the super-softs.

It's worth noting that Lewis Hamilton can still set a time capable of reaching Q2 and be in the second session - but he's unlikely to turn up for it.
First qualifying is under way.
Eighteen minutes with the 16 quickest going through to Q2 - six will be eliminiated.
