They were risking a catastrophic failure. It is probably something in the power unit that would have been really costly. It was a tremendous performance for Wehrlein in qualifying and that will be very disappointing for Manor.

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Renault's Jolyon Palmer has been talking to BBC Radio 5 live and is not too impressed after his early collision with Sauber's Felipe Nasr, which caused the Briton's race to end prematurely.

"I had a good start but Nasr ran me off the road and we crashed, I can't explain why he did that," says Palmer.

"It was either go in the gravel or stay on the track and risk contact. We crashed a couple of times as team-mates in GP 2. He seems to be racing fairly, but we need to have racing room and he left me nothing.

"This weekend I out qualified my team-mate, I was driving well, and yesterday was good for me personally. I'm driving well and it didn't show here but it will in the future."
