I think we've said all we can say after that. 

Hamilton will rue that poor start (the reasons for which still haven't been fully explained) but his recovery drive was at least stirring stuff and a timely reminder of his talent after the sideshow of recent days. 

Rosberg, meanwhile, was imperious. A controlled, composed drive to his ninth win of the campaign. A maiden world title beckons. It's now just a case of holding his nerve over the final four races. 

We're back in two weeks' time for the first of those, the United States Grand Prix.

Rosberg's win today was Mercedes' 60th in F1.

Their first came waaaaaay back at the 1954 French Grand Prix, when Juan Manuel Fangio led home from team-mate Karl Kling at Reims.

Almost half of respondents believe Hamilton's actions over the last few days are due to him cracking under the pressure of the title battle, while 36% feel there's nothing to see here.

Richard Cassidy: Another shocker!.#Hamilton has raced like a ninja beset by foes, while #Rosberg has bored through with panache of an HMRC accountant.

Josh Walker-Jacobs: Fair play Rosberg and Hamilton but most of the top 6 drivers in that car would win. Surely has to make it a little hollow.

Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "It's been a positive weekend. 

"With penalties for both drivers, it was harsh but we managed to come back and then looked like we might get a podium. 

"I think it was a right thing to do (to put the soft tyre on at the final stint) but then the tyres didn't hold up. We just had more tyre degradation to fight with than we expected."

Lewis Hamilton can of course win this championship. It only needs a DNF from Nico. 

There is so much to still play for but Lewis can't afford a scrappy weekend.

We have seen the momentum slightly fall away from Lewis as it has gone to Nico, but it is not impossible.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner: "It was a superb drive by Max. He kept his head and a mature drive - phenomenal race."

On a potential issue with Verstappen's moving under braking when Hamilton tried to pass, he added: "Lewis was always going to go for inside. Lewis came quite late. I didn't see anything wrong with it."

Nico Rosberg, P1: "What an awesome weekend. It's beautiful to win here and congratulations to my colleagues and team for clinching constructors' championship and let's celebrate hard."

Max Verstappen, P2: "There was a lot of traffic but we saved tyres in last stint. To race Mercedes is always positive and to come home in second I have to give a thanks to the team. Lewis was pushing hard and had a little moment and pleased to finish second."

Lewis Hamilton, P3: "Congratulations to the team, I'm very proud to be part of it. I did the best I could from where I was in the race. I will give it everything I have got [for the rest of the season] and we will see what happens."

That was Rosberg's ninth win of the season and 23rd overall.  

He is now one win clear of 1996 champion Damon Hill and level with three-time champion Nelson Piquet.

He leads the championship by 33 points with four races to go. He can now afford to finish second to Hamilton at the remaining four races and still win the title.

Mercedes chief Toto Wolff on winning the constructors' championship again: "It feels great. Third time we did it. After drama in Malaysia where we tried really hard to do it, it feels very special. Doing a third time in a row, it is very special also."

On Lewis hamilton's performance, he added: "I can't precisely tell you. It looks like start was not perfect, whether clutch release not right, I don't know. We know we have not been perfect and have to improve next year.

"I think that was the maximum he (Lewis) could have achieved in this race."

Nico Rosberg extends his drivers' championship lead to 33 points but there is likely to be a little inquest on whether Max Verstappen did something on the track he shouldn't have.

Nico needs to keep it on the road and we are now into territory of Lewis needing Rosberg to DNF or really struggle.

This is a very important victory for Nico and made all that much more easy for him by that damp patch at the start as Lewis did not get off properly and was swamped by the field.
