Daniel Ricciardo seems pretty happy with his tyre strategy but he's going to need a good start tomorrow. He's on the super-softs so won't be able to go into the race as far as those around him, who are on softs.
Max Verstappen might well fancy his chances of pipping his team-mate to a place on the podium.

Jolyon Palmer is finishing the season quite strongly. He out qualified his Renault team-mate Kevin Magnussen again today.

Lewis Hamilton knows victory is far from assured, and he will know that it could all go wrong for him before the race has really started given his poor starts record.
He's lost the lead from pole position on the first lap in five races this season.

Daniel Ricciardo, who will start tomorrow's race from third: "Not concerned about strategy. I expected it to be like this.Max wanted to try the softs and for me I wanted to super soft. I was more comfortable on that tyre yesterday. Hopefully it will give me a better launch off line. Not close to Mercedes, we expect them to be hard to beat, but a buffer over Ferrari. We have a good chance tomorrow. We will see what happens. super softs will give me friendly grip off the line."

That was the 58th pole position of Lewis Hamilton's career, edging him closer to Ayrton Senna total of 65 and putting him 10 behind Michael Schumacher's total of 68.

Lewis Hamilton has won three of the four previous races at the Circuit of the Americas but this is his first pole on the track. He's given himself a real chance of securing the victory he needs to keep his title hopes alive.
