This is a race Lewis Hamilton needs to win, so he could certainly do without any engine worries prior to qualifying.

Meanwhile, here's Nico Rosberg arriving at the circuit a little earlier. Cool as a cucumber.

Mercedes broke the ‘curfew’ restricting the hours team members can spend in the paddock on Friday night because of a “precautionary change of the fuel system” on Lewis Hamilton’s car. It is of course the latest in a series of engine-related issued for Hamilton this year.

So can Daniel Ricciardo pick from where he left off on Friday?

We don't have long to wait to find out with final practice getting under way at 16:00 BST before qualifying at 19:00.

Could there be an interloper in the title battle between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton in Texas this weekend? It certainly looked that way on Friday. In second practice, Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo split the Mercedes drivers on single-lap pace and was quicker than them on the race-simulation runs. And afterwards the Australian - who is wearing stars and stripes trainers this weekend - was confident if also wary.

“Our long run pace looks like we were able to match them if not be quicker. But I have said it before,” Ricciardo said. “It is Friday, but it is nice to have a good Friday. It is nice to start the weekend on the right foot.”

Rosberg said: “Red Bull seems to be pretty close. I think as per usual, really, so they are very close but maybe not quite there to really annoy us, but let’s see. We need to give it everything to stay ahead of them.”

Daniel Ricciardo's attempt at an American accent, external may leave a lot to be desired but there's nothing questionable about his ability to drive an F1 car.

The Australian split the Mercedes drivers in practice yesterday, finishing second fastest to Nico Rosberg.

The headlines may be about the title battle between Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, but can Ricciardo steal the show at this weekend's United States Grand Prix?
