  4. Win on Rosberg's mindpublished at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2016

We're asking if Nico Rosberg should play it safe or go for the win and the man himself has given a little glimpse into his mind in an interview during the drivers' parade.

"I will be happy if I manage to get the win," he said.

"Qualifying was OK in the end, I was going for pole but Lewis was just too quick."

The sun is shining, the stadium section is packed to the rafters with fans and a mariachi band is marching through the pit-lane playing music.

If this race turns out as good as the atmosphere at the circuit, then we are in for a corker.

I had a chat with 1979 world champion Jody Sheckter yesterday and he thinks Nico Rosberg would be foolish to play it safe.

"You just have to be careful that you don't think about not trying to make mistakes," he said.

"You have to go and do what you can do because you do make mistakes if you think like that, cars hit you and all sorts of things when you are trying to be careful."

In stark contrast to his disappointing weekend there last year, Lewis Hamilton has totally owned the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez this weekend. So dominant has he been over team-mate Nico Rosberg that there was a hint of disappointment at being “only” 0.254secs clear in the end.

“Q3 was actually the worst session of the weekend so far,” Hamilton said. “It was not a great lap. I had a serious delta to Nico and the others throughout the session and I lost quite a lot of time on my final laps.”

Now, though, the key thing is the start, which has cost Hamilton dearly on a few occasions this year from pole. “The start will be important,” he said. “It is a long run to turn one, but the long-run pace has been good.”

What would you do if you were Nico Rosberg?

He knows he can cruise home in second and still be in control of the title battle, but doing so potentially puts him at risk of things going wrong.

Should he go all out for the win in ever race, or play it safe?

It may be advantage Nico Rosberg at the moment but that could quickly change. If Lewis Hamilton wins this race and Rosberg finishes fourth or lower then the title race will be in the Englishman's hands. If he wins the two remaining races, then he will be world champion.

With the Red Bulls lurking right behind the Mercedes pair and both on super-softs, Rosberg can ill afford a bad start. If he does, then the above scenario will become a distinct possibilty.

    Game on.

The lap Nico Rosberg produced in the final seconds of qualifying in Mexico City on Saturday might turn out to be arguably the most crucial of his season. Before it, he was languishing in fourth place, half a second behind the Red Bulls and in danger from the Ferraris as well. But Rosberg, as he put it, “got there in the end”.

The gap to team-mate Lewis Hamilton - 0.254 seconds - is still chunky around a relatively short circuit but it crucially puts him on the front row. A bad start from Hamilton and the race win might be more or less in the bag for Rosberg - and with it a giant step towards his first world title. But a lot can still happen. If Rosberg makes a bad start - and it’s more likely for him, from the dirty side of the grid - he could be behind at least one Red Bull. That’s what Hamilton needs.

It will be a tense build-up and first few seconds of the race.

Hello! Welcome along to our coverage of the Mexican Grand Prix.

Has Lewis Hamilton woken up for the final time this year as world champion? The Briton put himself in the best possible position to ensure that isn't case by securing pole position in qualifying yesterday but Nico Rosberg is right where he needs to be. A stonking lap put him alongside his team-mate on the front row.

Victory for Hamilton will ensure he stays in the fight with two races remaining, and he's been faultless all weekend.

Surely nothing will go wrong today, will it?

On the morning of the 30th October 1988, Ayrton Senna arrived at the circuit to go through his usual pre-race preparations for the Japanese Grand Prix.

A few hours later he was celebrating his first world championship.

On that same date 28 years later, and one day after doing a qualifying lap the legendary Brazilian would have been proud of, Nico Rosberg also arrives at a race track knowing that, if things go his way, he too will become a world champion.

Is this to be Rosberg's date with destiny?
