The reality is Hamilton is not giving up but one suspects that five second time penalty will decide this race - to be honest, it may have ruined the race...
"It is all going to happen at the end, keep it up mate," Lewis Hamilton is told over team radio.
The gap is down to 9.3 seconds as Sebastian Vettel picks his way past the backmarkers.
Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene can't take the tension. He's gone out of the garage for a bit of fresh air.

The gap between Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton is down to 11.3 seconds but Hamilton was just a second quicker than Vettel on that last lap.
Vettel is approaching backmarkers Jolyon Palmer and Marcus Ericsson.

Based on their current pace, I don't think Bottas will be getting any team orders to let Hamilton through any time soon - I think Hamilton will just breeze straight past him in a few laps time.
Bottas' performance has been nowhere near good enough to challenge for the race despite his pole position this weekend.
Lewis Hamilton is closing in on Valtteri Bottas with 2.7 seconds between them now. Get past his team-mate and he should be right on Sebastian Vettel's tail going into the final few laps.
Hold on tight, this could be a tense finish!

Lewis Hamilton is 6.6 seconds behind Valtteri Bottas and 16.4 seconds behind race leader Sebastian Vettel after serving his five-second penalty during that last stop.
Hamilton does a 1:32.887, 1.5 seconds quicker than Vettel.
Is the race win on for the Briton?
"Why are we going for this tyre?" asks Lewis Hamilton, as he questions why softs were put on rather than super-softs. "It is based on data," Mercedes assure him.
The Mercedes pit crew gets ready. Lewis Hamilton is indeed coming in... he takes on a fresh set of softs and comes out ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in third.

Valtteri Bottas is also told that Lewis Hamilton has a five second penalty and is yet to stop.
Looks like Hamilton will be stopping again...
"It's important to close the gap to Sebastian Vettel," Valtteri Bottas is told. The Mercedes is 9.5 seconds behind the Ferrari.
Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo pits from fourth, takes on super-softs, and is back out in fifth, behind Kimi Raiikkonen.

It's been pretty cataclysmic weekend for Honda hasn't it. There is plenty of head scratching going on up and down the pit lane as to how they have managed to get it so wrong.
I'm sure Fernando Alonso can't wait to get to Indianapolis.
