Not that it needed emphasising, but that's a good example of why McLaren are so desperate to hold on to Alonso.

Grosjean made a similar mistake a little bit earlier in the session at the same turning but we have seen two outstanding performances from Ocon and Perez.

Well how about this! Fernando Alonso improves with 1:21.251 and he is into the top 10 shootout for the first time this year! Brilliant!

Maybe he should sack off first practice and play tennis more often?

Pleasing stuff for McLaren fans as Fernando Alonso's first timed lap in Q2 is a 1:21.510, putting him 10th for now.

Alonso in the top 10 shootout? Might be a push but what a job he has done so far today after a shocking start to the weekend. As ever, getting the maximum out of what's at his disposal.

Vettel is clearly more happier with his car than yesterday when he said he was not always the captain of the ship, and you can see the way he is turning into the corners how confident he is today and will be expecting to have a good race tomorrow.

Sebastian Vettel splits the Mercedes as a 1:20.295, just 0.08s down on Lewis Hamilton and 0.005s quicker than Valtteri Bottas. Ferrari reckon Kimi Raikkonen could have gone even quicker after making a mistake on his lap, so very, very close between Ferrari and Mercedes.

Times coming in and now and both Red Bulls show good pace as Max Verstappen goes P4, within half a second of Lewis Hamilton, while Daniel Ricciardo is fifth, a tenth down on his team-mate.

Nevertheless, Valtteri Bottas' first timed lap in Q2 puts him second, just 0.09s down on Lewis Hamilton.
