That means Lewis Hamilton will set the first time in Q2 and he cuts the timing beam in 1:20.210, the fastest lap we've seen so far this weekend.

You have very fast corners at start and very slow at the end and if you take too much early from the tyres then can suffer at end of lap.

The track is not in a good condition as the engineers expected turned out to be half a second slower and that was a great lap from Hamilton and he has clearly got the car in a sweet spot and driving really well.

Not good at all from Daniil Kvyat. He's a full eight tenths of a second off his Toro Rosso team-mate Carlos Sainz and will start last on the grid tomorrow.

Lewis Hamilton finishes quickest in the first part of qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso takes the chequred flag and is up to 10th, he should be safely through.
Felipe Massa improves but only by a bit. Up to 14th...
Felipe Massa is actually right on the bubble now. He's 15th and will need to find an improvement or could well be in real trouble.

We know Lance Stroll is not quick as Massa but Massa should be higher up than 13th.
Kevin Magnussen follows his Haas team-mate out of danger for now with a 1:21.945 to go P8, so now Marcus Ericsson and Stoffel Vandoorne have dropped into the elimination zone with a minute to go.
Much better from Romain Grosjean as he does a 1:21.822 to leap up from 16th to seventh.
Lewis Hamilton is done for this part of qualifying. He is back in the pits. Kimi Raikkonen, Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas all decide to do another run with Raikkonen moving up to P2 with 1:20.742, within two tenths of Hamilton's time.

The fluctuation of form from Haas how they can be so quick in one session and not in others and there have been moments when they have looked good this weekend but perhaps that is the lack of experience of a new team.
Everyone's done a timed lap now and with five minutes to go the drivers in danger are Romain Grosjean, Lance Stroll, Jolyon Palmer, Kevin Magnussen and Daniil Kvyat.
