Two-and-a-half hours into the second test and Pascal Wehrlein does his first timed lap as a Sauber driver. The German does a 1:30.847 on the hard tyres to prop up the timesheet.

No sooner do I put out a latest times update it is out of date as Daniel Ricciardo goes even quicker!

The Australian does a 1:20.106 - sixth tenths quicker than his previous best - on the soft tyre to strengthen his place at the top of the timesheet.

That's the third fastest time we've seen in the five days of testing so far.

    Hello, hello, what's this?

Sebastian Vettel has the mileage and the pace as he rattles off a 1:21.321. That puts him third, two tenths behind Lewis Hamilton in P2 but Vettel's lap was done on mediums with Hamilton doing his best effort on softs.

I haven't mentioned McLaren much this morning which, to be fair, is probably a good thing because it means everything is going A-OK so far.

Stoffel Vandoorne is getting pushed back into the garage for a bit of tweakage after completing 28 laps.

Two hours in and Sebastian Vettel has spent the most time on the circuit so far. He's got 32 laps under his belt, with Felipe Massa next up on 30.

Lewis Hamilton, whose Mercedes is currently back in the garage having some work done, has completed 22 laps while Pascal Wehrlein has done the fewest laps with 11.

Ben Berwick:  The Williams and McLarens of the early 90s would have been cherry sorbets and spicy tacos respectively

Greg Harrison: Sauber are Bubble & Squeak. Really nice, but clearly scraped together from leftovers.

Lewis Hamilton has the track to himself and makes the most of it, putting in a 1:21.080 on softs to move up to P2 and to within two tenths of Daniel Ricciardo's time.

  12. Postpublished at 09:53 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

I thought there was a problem for Jolyon Palmer a litter earlier as he came to a stop in the pit lane and was pushed back to his box with a yellow-flag waving marshal close by, but seems to be all OK.

  14. New position for Paul Hembery?published at 09:49 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

F1 journalist Dan Knutson in Barcelona: "Pirelli’s Racing Manager Mario Isola is holding a press conference here at the track at 11:30 a.m. local time. It’s expected that he will confirm speculation that Pirelli’s Motorsport Director Paul Hembery will be taking up a new position as president of Pirelli’s South American region.

"This will mark a significant change as Hembery has overseen Pirelli’s Formula 1 programme ever since it returned to F1 in 2011 as well as the company’s various forays in the WRC."

What I do like the look of is the new Toro Rosso. Lush and probably my favourite 2017 livery.

The STR12 showed promise in the first test, despite a couple of reliability issues, and the team are feeling confident of challenging towards the top end of midfield this season.

Daniil Kvyat has had a trouble-free morning so far and is currently P6 with his best time a 1:23.408. Big season for the Russian after tumultuous one last year.

I just spent 10 minutes searching for pictures of pies. Didn't expect that when I got up this morning.

Anyway, in non-food related news, Lewis Hamilton has seen Daniel Ricciardo's time and thought 'I know your game'*, and upped his pace to do a 1:22.063, putting him third.

    *he probably didn't think this
