Rod Peel:There is a real probability that Red Bull will suffer some reliability issues so a Hamilton win is not impossible.

Amit Mandalia: Does anyone actually think Mercedes are going to struggle here as much as they have been saying before this weekend?

Rachel Bridge:Stroll seems to be much more comfortable at the tracks that appear more dangerous - here and Baku are similar.

It seems the long-stint runs are under way so expect the order to be static for a while.

I accidentally put Alonso back in a Ferrari in my 14:15 update.

    It's OK everyone, it's not 2014 again.

It's 2017 and Donald Trump is president.

    So THAT'S FINE ISN'T IT?

  6. That's not how you hit the wall... THIS is how you do itpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 15 September 2017

Sebastian Vettel has just out-Max Verstappened Max Verstappen.

At the same place where the Red Bull hit the Tecpro Barriers the Ferrari does the same, but this time the impact is much heavier and more of the car connects with the wall.

Vettel even managed to dislodge an advertising hoarding for Rolex. Nice bit of exposure for them.

  7. Ferrari updatepublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 15 September 2017

    Raikkonen in P9.

    Vettel in P11.

Not happening for them so far.

A long way from what we were all expecting.

Graham Wright: The way Alonso's luck has been recently I'm fully expecting Honda to produce a beast of an engine for 2018.

Ed Forsyth: Can we expect to see McLaren up with Red Bull next season, or will progress be more gradual than that?

Amit Mandalia: Alonso will surely finish his career at McLaren because no other team will want him when they can go younger and long term.

  10. Verstappen thumps the wallpublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 15 September 2017

These guys are really pushing. We've just see a slow-mo of Verstappen's rear end kicking out and whacking the padded barriers. No damage done.

We've also seen Fernando Alonso do the same in the McLaren.

    It's very busy out there

Daniel Ricciardo is absolutely loving this.

He bangs in yet another track record in the Red Bull, a 1:40.852 taking him five tenths of a second clear of team-mate Max Verstappen, who was forced to lift off on his early quick run because of Grosjean's spin.

  15. Drivers getting raggedpublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 15 September 2017

Romain Grosjean has spun his Haas on the exit of Turn Seven and Jolyon Palmer clips the wall in the Renault. A sizable whack actually. His car seems to have absorbed it well though.

  16. Ricciardo quickestpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 15 September 2017

    And the pendulum swings again.

Daniel Ricciardo, now on the ultra-soft himself, posts a 1:41.228 and he goes three tenths clear of Hamilton.

I know it's only practice but already battle looks joined at the front. And Ferrari haven't even shown their hand yet...

Lewis Hamilton gets the Mercedes to the top of the order on the ultra-soft, however, posting a time five tenths up on Verstappen.

Interesting. Valtteri Bottas' Mercedes, on the quickest ultrasoft tyre goes into second place, slower than Verstappen's time on the super-soft, albeit only by 0.027s.
