Mercedes drivers will stay with same car specs as in final practice: Hamilton with the old spec, Bottas with new.

  3. Postpublished at 09:48 British Summer Time 30 September 2017

Mercedes mixed things up in final practice, giving Valtteri Bottas the upgraded aero package they had brought to Malaysia and giving Lewis Hamilton the old spec. The result was Bottas finishing two tenths quicker than Hamilton.

  5. No action for Verstappen-Palmer incidentpublished at 09:39 British Summer Time 30 September 2017

There was a little bit of drama right at the end of final practice when Jolyon Palmer clipped Max Verstappen as they both took a corner.

Verstappen blamed Palmer while Palmer blamed Verstappen but stewards have decided to take no action.

  6. No cars finish F4 racepublished at 09:34 British Summer Time 30 September 2017

    Here's an odd one.

The Formula 4 Southeast Asia Championship event took place earlier this morning... without a single car making it to the finish.

It appears they all ran out of fuel with four cars stopping on lap six of the eight-lap race and three more halting on lap seven.

A future pub quiz question if I ever saw one.

    Best seat in Formula 1?

After someone tweeted in earlier suggesting their view at Turn One at Sepang was the best in Formula 1, we are asking for your suggestions.

Lewis Hamilton has taken four pole positions in Malaysia, three of those coming in the last three races.

A fifth pole position at Sepang is not looking likely for the championship leader, but Mercedes are always capable of finding that bit more.

Six tenths is quite a bit to make up, though.

  10. What's up with Mercedes?published at 09:18 British Summer Time 30 September 2017

Lewis Hamilton set only fifth fastest time in final practice and he was 0.659 seconds off the pace, set by Kimi Raikkonen.

Mercedes' performance is likely to be a major concern for the team, especially as their two cars were running in different specifications in the session in an attempt to understand the handling problems the drivers experienced on Friday.

An aerodynamic upgrade was taken off Hamilton's car but left on Bottas' - the team saying it was so they could "confirm our confidence in that kit".

The fact that Hamilton ended up slightly slower than Bottas, but should have been slightly faster, would be expected to leave them in a quandary - especially as this is a track on which at the very least they expected to be evenly matched with Ferrari.

One positive for Mercedes is that the gap to the front is much smaller than it was on Friday, when they were 1.4secs off the pace.

Yes, Kimi Raikkonen was fastest in final practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The Finn led the way ahead of Sebastian Vettel, whose session came to a premature end because of an issue with the engine.

Ferrari are changing his engine as precaution but, as the tweet below says, he will incur no penalty.

So, question marks remain over Mercedes' pace as they finished four tenths off the pace of Ferrari, although it was far from smooth sailing for Sebastian Vettel as an issue late on saw him slow down on the track.

Plenty to ponder before qualifying for a few teams then.

That gets under way at 10:00 BST, we'll be back at 09:00 for build up.

I'll leave you with Andrew Benson's take on final practice.
