Andrew Benson's report from the second practice session is live here.

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton was in scintillating form as he set the pace in practice at the United States Grand Prix.

Hamilton's title rival Sebastian Vettel could manage only third quickest, 0.524 seconds behind the Mercedes, and behind Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Hamilton leads Vettel by 59 points and will take the title if he wins the race and the German is lower than fifth.

Vettel suffered a spin at Turn 19, costing him significant track time.

In case you haven't seen this, it is well worth a watch.

Renault's Nico Hulkenberg spoke to BBC Sport earlier this week and gave his thoughts on a variety of subjects, including what makes him angry.

These are the stats you need from practice session two. Once again, it is a great sight for Mercedes fans.

Remember, they will also clinch the Constructors' Championship if either Lewis Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas wins on Sunday.

Brendon Hartley comes 17th on his Toro Rosso debut, while Carlos Sainz out-performed new Renault team-mate Nico Hulkenberg.

There is a lot of work for American team Haas to do in their home Grand Prix. Kevin Magnussen was 14th quickest and there was no-one slower than his team-mate Romain Grosjean.

Remember, if Hamilton wins on Sunday, Vettel would need to finish in the top five to keep it going on until Mexico next week,

If Hamilton comes second then Vettel would need to come in the top eight, or Bottas would need to win the race or it is all over.

So it is first (Hamilton) and fourth (Bottas) for Mercedes, second (Verstappen) and fifth (Ricciardo) for Red Bull and third (Vettel) and sixth (Raikkonen) for Ferrari.

Fernando Alonso, who only completed one lap in session one earlier today, is the best of the rest in his McLaren.

He was fastest in session one, and Lewis Hamilton is also the fastest in session two. What a day for him.

He is closing in on the world title and this is another statement showing his dominance.

Legendary boxing announcer Michael Buffer will be introducing the drivers on Sunday. Seems like he is looking forward to it.

Jeremiah Kariuki: Ferrari team know how to form a human team whenever Vettel's car has an issue! Just to keep off the cameras!

Rod Peel‏: Ferrari are displaying all the signs of a team that is deeply ashamed of their performance. It is sad that they are not open.

Vettel third, Raikkonen sixth, another below-par day for Ferrari.

We haven't mentioned Felipe Massa too much today, but he and his Williams team will be content with the eighth-place that he currently finds himself in. Team-mate Lance Stroll, meanwhile, is well off the pace in 16th.
