Bolt adds to Sky Sports: "I feel like I can take some of these guys easy."

There is something about the way the Americans put on an event that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

Kayleigh: Also, the guy singing the national anthem is blooming incredible!

Time for the American national anthem. There had been questions whether Lewis Hamilton would "take a knee" to copy the recent protests at a number of American football matches. He doesn't.

All the drivers stand and take off their caps while the singer belts out an epic version of the Star Spangled Banner.

MARK DAVEY: Dear #F1 erm just no. I mean No, no, no. It's not Boxing.

Edward Letherby: The driver introductions at #USGP is horrendous. What were they thinking? Were they thinking? Absolutely shocking.

Glitz and glamour in Formula 1 with a great show being put on. The drivers are each being introduced to the crowd, who are lapping it up.

There is a really good chance of Sebastian Vettel winning this Grand Prix. We have seen Ferrari have been quicker in the races.

The interesting thing is if there is a collision, who would it favour more?

There is no real incentive for Hamilton to dive out of the way. If they collide then Vettel is out of the Grand Prix as well.

Max Verstappen has out-qualified Daniel Ricciardo more times than not this season but the Australian is fighting back in recent races, beating the Dutchman three times in a row now to make it nine-seven for the season in races where a comparison is fair.

No wonder, then, that he was in such a good mood after qualifying, joking around that he did not know that he and Verstappen were on different engine specs, and punching the air when told his team-mate had the upgraded one. (I can’t repeat the conversation; it contained plenty of fruity language).

Red Bull are confident of a strong race for Ricciardo, having shown well in the Friday long runs, and the man himself says he will be trying to get past Valtteri Bottas off the start to run with Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.

Ricciardo starts fourth, with Verstappen 16th because of a hefty grid penalty.

There is an impression growing in F1 that Red Bull are slowly becoming Max Verstappen’s team. The Dutchman has just signed an extension to his contract, for a big chunk more cash, and team principal Christian Horner is talking about him “building the team around him”.

None of which looks that great for Daniel Ricciardo’s future, but if the Australian is bothered, he is doing a good job of hiding it. “Um, I’ll be honest, up until now I haven’t seen or experienced anything,” he said. “I can’t predict the future but at least up until now there hasn’t been any favouritism. If there was, you’d know about it because I would be expressing my frustration for sure. It is not something I’d hide.

"I’m aware he has broken some records and I guess Red Bull especially as a brand would like him to break more and that’s fine. I get how it would boost the brand’s image. So from a marketing point of view, I get it.

"But behind closed doors from an engineering status and equality, there has been nothing at all like that and you’d certainly know if i was unhappy with how things were shaping up. They have been fair. The media gets excited and I get it but it’s all been good."

And will he consider it when weighing up his contractual decisions post-2018, for when he has bene linked with a move to Mercedes? “I will factor it in if it starts to become evident. Up until now, no.

"The biggest thing looking forward is can we build a car that can win a title and for sure if we come out next year and have a chance to win, then very likely I’ll want to stay on and extend my contract. The performance is definitely still the number one box for me to tick.”

  16. 'The win is possible'published at 19:30 British Summer Time 22 October 2017

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, speaking at the driver's parade: "My target is Seb (Sebastian Vettel) and Lewis (Hamilton). If we are there at the start we can run with them. Yesterday Valtteri (Bottas) was close but I am looking further ahead today.

"It has been super windy all weekend tricky. I love the track. I have had a few podiums so would love to get a win here. The win is possible."

  17. 'I wanted to scare him to death'published at 19:29 British Summer Time 22 October 2017

Lewis Hamilton has been speaking at the driver's parade.

Asked whether he wants a close race between him and Sebastian Vettel today, the Mercedes driver said: "On one side you want to win the race but Barcelona and Spa [when Hamilton finished first and second] have been the best races.

"I expect today will be a close fight and I don't think there will be a moment when we get to breathe."

Speaking about driving Usain Bolt around the Austin track, Hamilton said: "It was so good. Every now and then we do a lap in a car but this spec was the best one Mercedes have done.

"It was so much fun, I wanted to scare him to death!"

  19. World title #3 and 'that' cap incidentpublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 22 October 2017

    Lewis HamiltonImage source, Getty Images

In 2015, Lewis Hamilton's third world title saw him equal Sir Jackie Stewart as the most successful British driver in Formula 1.

It was won right here in Austin at the United States Grand Prix in dramatic style.

Again it was Hamilton v Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg with Rosberg unhappy at the Briton's aggressive move at the first corner.

The lead changed hands between the pair throughout but the decisive moment came when Hamilton forced Rosberg into a mistake late on and completed the overtake en route to the race victory.

The post-race events were just as interesting with Hamilton tossing a 'second place' cap towards the German, who then memorably launched it back toward the champion.

  20. Title number two for Hamilton - after a six-year waitpublished at 19:24 British Summer Time 22 October 2017

After his first championship in 2008, Lewis Hamilton was forced to wait another six years for his second world title.

It was again clinched in the final race of the season, this time the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Hamilton started second behind team-mate and title rival Nico Rosberg but overtook the German at the start before mechanical problems for Rosberg handed the Briton a comfortable win.

That made Hamilton just the fourth British driver to win two world titles.
